The first one in the CEV Cup ended in victory for Perugia. The Block Devils swept the Czechs of Karlovarsk in the 16th of finals first leg in Italy. Buti and co will now need to win at least two sets in the Czech Republic in two weeks to go through to the next round. In front of over 1500 fans, the hosts were not that brilliant but solid, effective. Good performances from Kaliberda and Birarelli combined with a few gifts from the opponent made sure of a positive result.

“We are satisfied with the result, the three points were the most important thing in a competition with such knock-out stage formula – explained Birarelli – We had enough quality to beat them but we know it’s not enough and that we’ll need to get better because there will be much better opponents in the future. This win can only be considered as a starting point”.
