The first weekend of the World League is over. Three Verona stars were involved: Starovic (Serbia), Anzani (Italy) and Sander (USA). The new outside hitter Starovic had to surrender twice against Brazil, 3-2 and 3-1. He scored 10 points in the first as a starter and 4 as a sub in the second. Two wins for the USA and Sander over Iran, both on a 3-1 score. Sander scored 19 in the first encounter but did not take part in the second. Finally, Anzani contributed to Italy’s victories with 11 and 8 points. There was success as well for coach Giani who guided the Slovenian national team to qualify for the coming European Championships at the expense of Portugal.
