Francesco Del Vecchio used to be the “golden boy”, now he is simply the team captain and the supporters favourite. Following the win over Macerata, he received a standing ovation “I had mixed feeling because I learnt at the same time that my uncle had passed away. I was kind of lost, and I just burst into tears. I still find it hard to describe that moment”. Del Vecchio has been brilliant of late “It’s been a great period, everything happened suddenly, I get a lot of attention from the media but I try to live it normally. I have to enjoy it of course, but I have to remember that I need to keep working to stay at the highest level”. Del Vecchio had started to play volleyball in his hometown of Terlizzi with the inter-school championships, and now he was the main man in the victory over the Italian champions.
