Cucine Lube Civitanova wins its eighth Del Monte® Coppa Italia in the sold-out Unipol Arena in Bologna and picks up where it left off in 2020/21, when president Fabio Giulianelli’s cooks triumphed over Sir Susa Vim Perugia.

A spectacular match that enthralled the over 9000 spectators and fans, the third tie-break in just over 24 hours; a match in which the Marche players had to deal with Rana Verona who attempted to repeat the comeback from 0-2 in the Semi-final against Sir Susa Vim Perugia. Since the Italian Cup has been played with the Final Four formula, it is the first time in which all three matches have reached the 5th set. Ahead 2-0, Balaso and his teammates immediately suffered the return of Stoytchev’s sextet, driven by a gigantic Keita, but in the fifth set the red and whites left their opponents no chance.

The exciting match was preceded by the award ceremony of the winning team of the Italian Territorial Cup, i.e. the Territorial Committee of Milan, captained by Riccardo Bergognoni. A great emotion went through the audience of the Unipol Arena at the moment of the national anthem, sung by all the fans present; especially from the Marche fans of Lube nel cuore and the Maraia gialloblù, supporters from Verona, supporters who have been twinned for some time.

Mattia Boninfante (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “An incredible emotion. Bologna brings me good, three years ago here I won the Serie A3 Italian Cup with Prata in a very similar way. I hope we come back to play here in the future too. It was a weekend that demonstrates the quality of Italian volleyball. At the beginning of the weekend someone could have bet on either us or Verona to reach the Final. Even in the final act there was a tie-break, and rightly so. We enjoy it, we take this beautiful trophy home: happy to have brought this trophy back to Civitanova. We dedicate it to the team, the staff and the club. A thought can only go to my family.”

Francesco D’Amico (Rana Verona): “It was a feat to get here by beating Piacenza and Perugia: the Semi-final was testing, a shame about today. We know that Civitanova plays well and rarely gives up, just like us. The fifth set rewards only one team, today they were better. We played two important matches that will help us for the future. Let’s start from this; Defeat always leaves some regret but I remain convinced that these matches have contributed to raising our level of play.”
