Cucine Lube Civitanova in the Del Monte® Italian Cup Final. The Marche team prevailed over their Trentino opponents in the second tie-break of the day after a very tight match which saw the first two sets very balanced, while the third was dominated by Lube and the fourth was again led by Itas despite an attempted comeback by the Marche. The fifth set was also characterized by point by point to the delight of the fans at the Unipol Arena in Bologna who applauded the two teams for a long time. Two aces from the Iranian Poryia and the defenses of a phenomenal Balaso were decisive in the final. Medei’s sextet will thus challenge the surprise Rana Verona in a very new final of the competition.

This is the second consecutive year in which 10 sets are needed to decide the finalists, after the tie breaks of Trento – Monza and Perugia – Milan. Since the Italian Cup has been played with the “Final Four” formula, it has happened two other times, always in Bologna: in 2015 it was Trento and Modena who won the tie-break round, in 2017 Civitanova and Trento.
In the third match of the season between Medei’s sextet, who won the championship at the Eurosuole Forum 3-1, and Soli’s team, who beat their rivals 3-0 in the Semi-final of the Club World Cup in Uberlandia, an amazing Balaso leads his teammates to play the title in tomorrow’s final at 3.15pm.

The spectacle of the Unipol Arena in Bologna was the backdrop to the match which saw the announced sextets take to the field: coach Soli, with Kozamernik not fully recovered but still on the bench, chooses Bartha in the center diagonally with Flavio and the former Rychlicki as opposite to the setter Sbertoli, in place four there are the Italians Lavia and Michieletto, the libero is Laurenzano; Medei instead confirms the 6+1 that beat Perugia last Sunday: Boninfante and Lagumdzija setter and opposite, Loeppky and Bottolo spikers, Gargiulo and the Olympic champion Chinenyeze in the center with Balaso libero.
Riccardo Sbertoli (Itas Trentino): “For Italian volleyball it was an important spot, but we are disappointed because we had the ball to go 13-10 but in that moment Lube did something extraordinary and I have nothing to complain about because we did everything well but not perfect. It is always said that ours is the most beautiful championship in the world, therefore, one should not be surprised if those lower in the standings manage to beat those higher up: the message is that Trento is there and will be there from now until the end of the championship ”.
Fabio Balaso (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “I have always tried to unite the team in moments of difficulty. However, we were good at staying united even in those situations: we turned it around and brought it home after a difficult moment. But we still haven’t done anything, we have an important final tomorrow after an absence of a few years from the Final Four.”
