The time to exploit some wild cards is over: we need to start playing seriously. There is no need for bluffs, the Sicilian trip brought no joy and Banca Macerata Fisiomed can no longer make mistakes. The seventeenth day of the Credem Banca men’s Serie A2 championship forces the Banca Macerata Forum to dress for special occasions. The match against Omifer Palmi could decide the season. Considering the position of the two teams, the match cannot be defined as ‘big’, but little changes: it is a fundamental turning point for both teams’ season. For Macerata, winning would mean reversing a complicated series of defeats (four in a row in the last few) and condemning their opponents to a chase towards salvation which would then only deserve applause.
Palmi’s roster does not justify the difficulties in results this season: the red and whites, on the other hand, remember well the defeat in the tie-break in the first leg match. Despite this, the Calabrian team has changed a lot. Jorge Cannestracci is the new coach, the direction has been entrusted to the expert Paris and the purchase of the Belgian Lecat demonstrates that the club is far from resigned to the final objective. Palmi is very dangerous with her mix of talent and unscrupulousness, which Banca Macerata Fisiomed will have to be very careful in handling.
At Macerata, progress continues to be observed – as well as the certainty of being able to play against anyone – but there is a need for a positive result that calms the environment, also making the weeks of preparation for the matches lighter.
