Yesterday evening, 23 September, at the Azienda Agricola Bagalini in Fermo, with a breathtaking view of Porto San Giorgio and the PalaSavelli, M&G Grottazzolina treated itself and its shirt sponsors to a special evening, with an exceptional guest : Flavio Tranquillo, well-known journalist and official voice of the NBA on Sky. The event, included in the 2024 schedule of the Sportiva-Mente festival, saw the participation of players and staff. Luca Alici moderated the dialogue with Tranquillo, in an intense reflection on the theme of sport and its profound and transversal meaning.
A critical look, so as not to give in to the “it’s always been done this way”, and a provocative look, to try to give birth to a different look at sport. In some way these were the two key words of many ideas: is “physical education” the two hours a week that the school dedicates to fulfill its duty or does it have to do with the training of aware citizens? Sport is culture, but to ensure that this principle becomes a reality, do we really believe that a collective moral pact and a strategic plan, including an economic one, are necessary? Can we continue to ignore the connection between sport and business and continue to hide behind a false hypocrisy that justifies the lack of responsibility?
Rethinking the world of sport is difficult, but possible: it is necessary to really want it and a paradigm shift is needed, because grassroots and commercial sport, each doing their job well, can create a coherent and valid system. But, as Tranquillo writes in his book Sport of Tomorrow, a copy of which was given as a gift to all those present, “to create it you need bricklayers and engineers, not tribunes and rabble-rousers”.
