Just under three months after the victory of its fourth Champions League, obtained on 5 May in Antalya (Turkey), the men’s Itas Trentino met this afternoon to begin preparation for the 2024/25 season which will see it engaged in at least three other competitions in addition to the Super League (Super Cup, CEV Cup and Club World Cup).
With seven weeks to go before the official debut (scheduled for 21 September in Florence, precisely for the Super Cup semi-final with Monza), the European Champion team officially began today to carry out the training program which, at least initially, will be characterized by the presence in the gym of only six of the fourteen players of the new squad. The other eight are in fact involved with their respective national teams: either at the Paris Olympics (Flavio, Kozamernik, Laurenzano, Lavia, Michieletto and Sbertoli) or in dedicated collegiate teams (Bristot with Italy Under 20 and Gabi Garcia with the USA).
Responding to coach Fabio Soli’s first call to the Sanbapolis gym in Trento (the central court of the daily Arena will be available only from the end of August) there were therefore well-known faces such as those of the director Alessandro Acquarone, the spiker Giulio Magalini, of the opposite Kamil Rychlicki and of the central Marco Pellacani (promoted from the youth team) and the unpublished ones of Nicola Pesaresi (libero) and Bela Bartha (central).
“We return to the gym with great enthusiasm and with the awareness of having to work a lot in this first phase – explained coach Fabio Soli, on the sidelines of the first training session -; the group of players already available has been at a standstill for some time because they have not had recent commitments with the national teams and therefore there will be a lot of work to do but we will be able to do it with relative tranquility and without too much haste. The first four weeks will serve precisely to bring these six athletes to the level of those who are currently competing in the Paris Olympics. Our initial focus will therefore be on physical work and getting to know each other with new players, to make them understand our methods. From this point of view I intend to talk a lot with them, to be able to immediately establish a constructive and useful dialogue both for the staff and for the player himself.
