The last piece to make up the framework of Rana Verona’s 2023/2024 roster has been positioned: it is Martin Chevalier, who completes the spiker department. Twenty-four years yet to be completed, but with several notches already marked in the top league of the Czech Republic, in particular with the AERO Odolena Voda shirt, with whom she also played in the CEV Challenge Cup in the season just ended.
Born in Brno, just like his new teammate Donovan Dzavoronok, on 4 August 2000, the Czech hammer began his volleyball career with Volejbal Brno, where he played for two seasons from 2019 to 2021, before moving to ‘AERO Odolena Voda, the country’s historic team, winner of four championships. He stayed in the Bohemian Club for three years, even reaching the European stages. In the last edition of the Challenge Cup, Chevalier played all four matches between the round of 32 and the round of 16, scoring 22 points and 3 blocks. However, he wore the silver medal around his neck at the end of the Czech Cup. With the U20 selection of his national team, however, he participated in the qualifiers for the European Championships in the category.
“When the opportunity presented itself to me to come and play in the Super League, it took me little time to accept – said Chevalier – The Italian one is the most competitive championship of all and having the opportunity to compete with the best volleyball players in the world represents a dream that comes true. From the first moment Rana Verona’s project was presented to me, I understood that I would be joining a serious and ambitious company, which wants to improve daily to achieve important results. In recent seasons, the team has demonstrated its qualities, often managing to get the better of opponents fighting for the title. They also told me that the support in Verona is incredible. Verona has made my dream come true: I will try to repay the trust with all of myself.”
Stefano Fanini, President of Verona Volley, welcomed the new addition with these words: “The arrival of Chevalier completes our spiker department with a young profile, which fits into the framework we have set up, based on a important green line that aims to enhance prospective athletes. In his country’s championship he demonstrated that he has excellent qualities, which I am sure he will make available to the group to contribute to achieving results.
