Infinite, eternal, legendary. Adjectives are wasted when talking about Egon Lamprecht’s career, and it couldn’t be otherwise for a player who seems timeless. The South Tyrolean libero, born in 1980, 185 centimeters tall, will continue to wear knee pads (at least) for another season, the fourth consecutive in Serie A2 Credem Banca, the thirteenth with the Delta Group Porto Viro jersey.
More than a shirt, a second skin for Lamprecht, who in black and fuchsia made the entire climb starting from Serie D. He enjoyed every victory, every goal achieved, every emotion, therefore, at almost 44 years of age (he will turn them in November) he still wants to play and above all to get involved in a group that next year will be made up mostly of very young people.
“I decided to continue above all for the club, which gave me the opportunity to reach Serie A and achieve unimaginable goals. Moreover, I have seen that I am still able to make my contribution, especially in training, so I think I can be useful to the cause again this year – says Lamprecht on the occasion of the renewal – I am happy that the team has been re-founded, the young people usually they are more spirited, more enthusiastic and have more desire to learn. What can my role be within this group? I don’t want to have it, I’ve never liked it. Age is not important, the difference is always made by the spirit and mind of the people. Maybe I will give some advice to my teammates if I deem it necessary, but nothing more.”
Yet Lamprecht was able to grasp a precious lesson – perhaps the most precious – during his very long and honored career: “You must always believe in your dreams, work every day to try to make them come true. There is nothing impossible.” Proof of this is that last year the Delta Group came one step away from the Italian Cup final: “Honestly, the defeat in the semi-final against Brescia was a ‘trauma’ for me. We wasted a golden opportunity, I hope that in the future there will be another chance to play in a final.”
