Luka Marttila at MINT Vero Volley Monza. For the young and talented Finnish spiker born in 2003, this is a return: his first experience in the SuperLega Credem Banca with the Brianza jersey dates back to 2022/2023, a year full of lessons but also great satisfactions, having entered several times during the match in progress giving a precious hand to his companions.
Strong on serve and intelligent and effective in attack, Marttila has also developed reliability in the receiving phase, where he has stood out positively in recent seasons when called upon. Currently attached to his country’s senior national team, in 21/22 he was elected best rookie of the Finnish top league, where he finished with 398 points from 30 games played. In the last two seasons, played in Monza and last year on loan at Montpellier Volley (France), Marttila has shown great quality in his play and above all a constant growth in performance.
Luka Marttila’s story with volleyball began at an early age, when he approached this sport in the role of libero in the youth team of his city’s team, Volley Ginepro Masku. After winning the award as best libero of the NEVZA 2018 Under 17, with the representative of Finland, from the 2018-2019 sports year he became part of the Kuortane first team, in the second Finnish category. His physical growth, in terms of height, not only led him to change roles, becoming a spiker, but above all to establish himself as one of the most promising hammers in his country with the Hurrikaani Loimaa club. In recent seasons, then, the positive experiences in the Italian and French championships, before returning to Brianza in the 2024/2025 season.
