Week of international commitments for five Block Devils with their respective national selections.
The Italians Simone Giannelli and Roberto Russo flew to Canada in Ottawa via Brazil for a new commitment with the Italian national team. After the first week played in Brazil, the second week of VNL starts tomorrow which will see Italy on the field in Pool 4 facing France, United States, Cuba and Holland. First in the standings after the first week of competitions with 11 points (4 wins in the first 4 games), coach Fefè De Giorgi’s boys are chasing points for Olympic qualification. The points advantage in the ranking is currently reassuring with Italy (second overall) boasting 361.86 points with Serbia (currently eleventh) which to date would be the first of those excluded from the Paris Games at 238.51. The hope and hope are that the Italian troop will be able to obtain a pass for the Olympics directly in Canada.
Canada where there is also Argentina of the new Perugia’ signing Agustin Loser. Those who already have the ticket to Paris in their pocket are Kamil Semeniuk’s Poland and Perugia’s new signing Yuki Ishikawa’s Japan (making his debut in the competition), both on stage from tomorrow with their respective national selections in Fukuoka in the country of the Rising Sun for the second week of Pool 3 competitions. Poland fifth in the standings with 9 points resulting from 3 victories and 1 defeat, Japan sixth with 8 points also with 3 victories and 1 defeat after the first week. The reigning European champions will face Bulgaria, Turkey and Brazil, the Japanese will face Iran, Germany and Slovenia while the Semeniuk-Ishikawa black and white “derby” is scheduled for Friday 7 June.
