A strong opposite to reinforce the rossoblù: Andrea Santangelo arrives in Taranto
Born in ’94 and 2 meters tall, Andrea Santangelo, originally from Molise, arrives in Taranto in the role of opposite to reinforce the diagonal together with Zimmermann and Gironi.
Born in Isernia, at just 15 years old he left his homeland and moved to Treviso, where he remained for two years playing in the local Under 18 team. Subsequently, at seventeen, he arrived in Macerata, one of the great Italian volleyball teams, where he continued his training in the Lube youth team, participating in a high-level Serie B1 championship. With the Marche team, Santangelo won an Under 18 and an Under 19 Scudetto. This period of growth led him to establish himself permanently in Serie A2 teams.
During his career, he played for Brolo, Cantù, Aversa and in 2019/2020 he had an experience abroad. He initially signed with Conad Reggio Emilia, but in September an offer arrived from Samsung Bluefangs Seoul, a prestigious club in the V-League, the top Korean series, which changed his plans. The following year he returned to Italy to play with Agnelli Tipesse Bergamo, where he led the team to win the Italian Cup and the Serie A2 Super Cup.
After a year in Ortona, Santangelo was called to Cuneo, and subsequently to Pineto, where he significantly contributed to the team’s salvation in A2.
Equipped with a very poisonous serve and a powerful attack, but above all with a great charismatic, combative and driving spirit, the Primavera General Director describes him like this:
“Santangelo was the most natural choice after his good season in Pineto and his successes in Serie A2. We are certain that he will give great added value to the team and will be able to best fit into the team with his experience, professionalism and team spirit and grow further with this important experience in the Super League. We are confident that his contribution will be very valuable.”
