Lombardy is already queen of the Under 19 men’s national finals, which reached their epilogue in the Tuscan-Umbrian Upper Tiber Valley. In fact, the heartfelt derby between Vero Volley Assiplan Monza and Diavoli Powervolley Brugherio will be the final on Sunday 19 May at the San Giustino sports hall (11am start) which will award the 2024 Italian category title. But it is the north that took the first four places, demonstrating that it has an edge over the rest of the “boot”. On a Saturday which inevitably recorded a clear increase in the quality level of the competition, the morning gave the first significant indications during the quarterfinals: in San Giustino, a clear 3-0 victory for Vero Volley over a Cucine Lube Civitanova team who in the second and the third set even had a margin of more than 10 points. The opposite situation, or almost, in Città di Castello, where Modena – down 0-1 thanks to Matervolley Castellana – responded to the advantages in the following two fractions and then took the fourth set more easily (25-19). In Selci Lama, the solid formation of the Diavoli Powervolley got rid of Parella Torino with a 3-0 from the smallest gaps, while in the match in Città di Castello – the most uncertain of the round – Volley Treviso narrowly defeated (15- 13) in the tie-break the tough Lupi di Santa Croce sull’Arno. Teams back on the field in the afternoon for the semi-finals; in San Giustino, good start for Treviso, then Monza triggers the positive streak, but when the first set seems firmly in their hands the Venetians get closer, even if the serving error that gives the 25-23 to Vero Volley actually scores the turning point of the match: the Monza team found the right energy also from a psychological point of view, while Treviso began to feel the fatigue of the five sets played a few hours earlier on its legs, so it ended 3-0 in a rather easy manner. Tougher match in Città di Castello: the Devils lead 1-0, Modena responds and then Brugherio responds by proving superior in all fundamentals (including defence) and finishing at 3-1.
Some verdicts have already been pronounced: Com Cavi Volley Meta, beating Marino 3-1, took eleventh place and Kioene Padova (3-1 over the Sicilians of A’ Ricchigia Gupe Volley) finished in ninth. In the semi-finals from 5th to 8th place, a good comeback from 0-2 to 3-2 (17-15 the outcome of the tie-break) for Cucine Lube Civitanova, who will now face Matervolley Castellana, also They won the tie-break against Parella Torino at the end of a very long match.
