A relentless scorer, with a career behind him that has led him to play with some of the most important Italian and international volleyball teams. The new opposite of Saturnia Acicastello will be Giulio Sabbi, a Roman with a long career full of successes both with club teams and with the Italian national team shirt – worn from 2011 to 2017 – with which he won gold and silver medals and bronze in various international competitions, along with several personal awards as best scorer of the championships in which he participated.
A real top seed in international volleyball, who in the last two seasons has been in Bulgaria, in that Hebar Pazardzhik in which Sabbi was under the orders of coach Camillo Placì. For the coach there is no doubt in having a striker of this level at his disposal, and for the club of president Luigi Pulvirenti the possibility of having at their disposal a player who will be able to make the difference and who, in Sicily, has spent the last few days, to get to know the club closely and realize the value of a project that looks to the SuperLega.
“Hats off to this club that made a double leap and faced it head on, relegation doesn’t count, attitude counts and what I saw is of value – says Sabbi the day after signing his contract. In recent days I have seen so much seriousness and all the desire to try. Next year’s A2 will not be easy, but we will face it to the best of our ability.” The new white and blue opposite says of Placì and his teammates: “I’m joining a group led by a very good coach and with players with whom we can be competitive and will give our best. The watchword is sacrifice, with the support of those fans who I’ve already seen it live.” At PalaCatania Sabbi played several matches with the national team and felt a warmth that he defines as “unforgettable”.
PLAYER CAREER
Giulio Sabbi, of Roman origins, began his career in 2008 in the youth team of Sisley Treviso, to make his debut in A1 in the 2008/09 season. Since then Sabbi has worn prestigious shirts, including that of the national team with which he made his debut in 2011, the year in which the Azzurri won the silver medal at the European Championship. Again with the national team he won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2011 and the bronze medal at the 2013 Grand Champions Cup and again in 2015 the silver medal at the World Cup and the bronze medal at the European Championship. He wore the shirts of Roma Volley in the A1 series in 2011/12, Pallavolo Molfetta 2013/14, and won the Italian Super Cup the following year with Lube di Treia.
