Reading and interpreting numbers and data, suggesting new strategies, interacting with the top management of the technical staff, but also with each individual athlete. The role of the scoutman in today’s volleyball is increasingly central. And if this role is played by a person who combines preparation and passion with absolute rigor and an uncommon depth of soul, then for Belluno Volley everything is a gain. Yes, because the Rhinos can rely on Francesco Gasperin.

BASICS – «The foundations we laid in 2021 paid off – says Gasperin -. This season, also thanks to the arrival of Matteo De Cecco, we have improved in preparing for matches and during the matches themselves. The details of what we extrapolate from the cold statistics are then reflected in reality.” It’s a demanding job, it’s almost superfluous to point it out: «For obvious reasons, the more you get into the depths of studying the various challenges, the more time is required. But if we want to aim high, it is best not to leave anything to chance. From a personal point of view, I always try to give my best.”

TABLET – The rhinos’ staff works in sync: «We have set in motion additional aspects, such as real-time replays on the tablets or the re-proposal of schemes and various game situations, so that De Cecco and the technical assistant Malaguti have available the greatest amount of data. We also try to give advice regarding video check calls. Specifically, I am in direct and constant contact with Malaguti, also because De Cecco has closer and more continuous discussions with coach Colussi.”

TIES – The relationship with the athletes is not negligible either: «I get along well with anyone. I’m part of the coaching staff, but I see the guys often. And I try to stay close to them: it’s important to build strong human bonds. I have always considered it an essential aspect, even when I was a player. The collective is healthy and long trips, which lead to spending more hours in company, facilitate harmony.” The scoutman is, to all intents and purposes, part of the group: «The most rewarding aspect? As in every industry, it’s victory. Just to give an example: meticulously preparing for the match against Cus Cagliari, facing the trip to Sardinia and then obtaining the three points, means seeing the work carried out recognised. I also want to offer ideas that can be used. And put into practice.”
