“The organization went really well, we are satisfied.” In this way Luigi Banella, head of the youth sector of Emma Villas Siena, talks about the Giuliano Lisi Memorial. Banella was the organizer of the event, which saw the Under 15 teams of Lube Civitanova Marche, Sir Safety Perugia, Volley Torretta Livorno arrive in the municipal gym of Castelnuovo Berardenga as well as the white and blue team coached by Francesco Marconi.

It was a great day of sport in Castelnuovo Berardenga, with the Sienese club being at the center of Italian youth volleyball thanks to this event. With this tournament the figure of Giuliano Lisi, a great volleyball coach, was worthily remembered. The quadrangular was also useful for young Sienese kids to compare themselves with their peers from other realities; kids who dream of becoming professional players one day.

The Castelnuovo Berardenga gym was filled with spectators for the occasion. Parents of the boys, volleyball enthusiasts, former players and friends of Giuliano Lisi, and then again representatives of the Federation and local institutions. Among those present were also the mayors of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Fabrizio Nepi, and of Buonconvento, Riccardo Conti, who awarded the young athletes prizes at the end of the races.

Perugia and Lube won the two semi-finals, both ending 2-0, against Siena and Torretta Livorno respectively. In the final for third place Siena won 2-0 against Livorno. The final for first place in the event was won by Lube, who defeated Perugia 2-0. Lube volleyball player Mattia Penna was voted and awarded as the best player of the tournament.

“Things went well from an organizational point of view – is the comment of Luigi Banella, head of the youth sector of Emma Villas Siena and organizer of the Lisi Memorial. – We saw a lot of spectators, former players, representatives of the Federation and the institutions. It was nice to remember Giuliano like this, who was a great coach. We saw some very interesting young players on the pitch, and we are happy with the third place we achieved in the tournament.”

Banella continues: “I hope that this year was only the first edition of the event, the goal is to replicate the tournament next year, always in memory of Giuliano who worked over time with many young people, training many players. We are really happy with how the tournament developed, we hope to be able to do even better next year. Some very strong young people competed, we saw solid and important realities for the youth sector.
