Second home match at the Pala Pirastu and second victory for CUS Cagliari, who on the fifth day of Serie A3 Credem Banca defeated the guests of Moyashi Garlasco with another 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18). A day to remember for Captain Menicali, celebrated before the match as “King of the Wall”, for the 400 personal blocks scored in Serie A.
A match managed by the rossoblù right from the first set, with Ammendola’s boys in full control of the game without ever suffering their opponents for long.
THE SESTETS – CUS Cagliari confirms the sextet of the last few days with the directing diagonal opposite Kindgard-Calarco, Menicali and Ambrose at the centre, Marinelli and Busch at the back with Vitali libero. Coach Bertini of Garlasco deploys Peslac as director and opposite Martinez, Orlando and Biasotto in the centre, Cavalcanti and Puliti in the band, Accorsi libero.
THE COMPETITION – The first set of the match begins point by point, until the first break found by the Sardinians from 9 all at 12-9, forcing Bertini to take the first time out. Upon returning, Garlasco seems reinvigorated, but CUS now has control of the set and, led by Calarco’s attacks, maintains the gap from the guests until 18-14, the moment of Garlasco’s second time out. CUS takes off, Bertini calls a video check at 21-15, but the set is now in its final stages, Menicali closes it at 25-17 by crashing a slash reception into the ground.
Start of the third set uphill for CUS, who wastes no time and immediately catches Moyashi, moving from the initial gap of 1-4 to 6-5, dragged by an overflowing Menicali who keeps his team on track with the sound of blocks. Once the comeback is complete, Bertini is forced to interrupt the game with another time out, but as in the first set, CUS is in control of the game by making good use of its central players and its opposite. At 13-10 Coach Bertini shuffles the cards and changes the dribble, inserting Pedroni for Prelec, then Tomassini for Biasotto and Puliti returns to the field, having been left out for Chadtchyn. Despite the changes, CUS does not seem to suffer from the black-green attacks and makes the decisive move starting from Busch’s diagonal shot at 16-11, monopolizing the set until 19-11. For the rossoblù, Enna comes on for Busch, Sartirani for Ambrose, Daniele Ammendola for Vitali and Muccione for Kidgard in a final sprint that ended the set at 25-18 with a maniout from the usual Calarco.
