Azzurri leaving for Rio de Janeiro with Cortesia replacing Russo
The men’s national team, fresh from winning the silver medal in the European Championships, is ready to turn the page and project itself towards the last, important, seasonal commitment: the Olympic Qualification Tournament, which will see the Azzurri as protagonists in Rio de Janeiro from 30 September to October 8 (Pool A). The top two in the group will qualify for the Paris 2024 Games (played using the round robin formula).
Technical Commissioner Ferdinando De Giorgi confirmed the 13 of the 14 athletes who took part in the continental event. The latest news is the presence in the Italian group of central defender Lorenzo Cortesia (Rana Verona) who replaced Roberto Russo (Sir Susa Vim Perugia). The Azzurri staff, in fact, having checked the conditions of the Sicilian central defender during the training camp in Cavalese in recent days, decided to replace him with the Rana Verona athlete for the upcoming tournament.
The pre-Olympic tournament will be broadcast on TV on SKY channels and on the paid streaming platform Volleyball World TV – welcome.volleyballworld.tv.
Here are the 14 Azzurri called up, all involved in the next Credem Banca SuperLega except for Alessandro Bovolenta, who will still play for Consar Ravenna in Serie A2 Credem Banca.
