Talking to Doctor Angelo Scaduto, social doctor of the Lupi S. Croce for about 20 years, is a very interesting experience. A flood of anecdotes, memories and considerations that confirm how important the role of the “doc” is within a first team.
“The “family” general practitioner is very important for kids who are far from home, sometimes very young. The management of the athlete is different from that of the physiotherapist, or the masseur; the calls concern health problems, advice on medicines to take for a cough, a fever, an indisposition, indications on nutrition, breathing problems, asthma, allergies. At the beginning, especially the new ones, are more reluctant to make themselves heard, preferring to turn to the figures they see every day in the gym and with whom they have developed greater confidence. Then they understand that the skills are different and then a good relationship is established, which lasts one or more seasons but sometimes remains for a long time, thanks to social networks”.
“I started working with the Wolves company about 20 years ago. In the same period I was also following the Beretti of Cuoiopelli Cappiano Romaiano, who played in Lega Pro. At the time I didn’t go on the bench, I started in the seasons of coach Totire. On the sidelines I fidget and cheer as if I were in the stands, but the referees, perhaps due to their position, are always very tolerant”.
“The darkest period was undoubtedly that of Covid, with carpet swabs in the gym and positivity. The best moments, those where I was able to help athletes solve problems that they had been dragging on for some time, also affecting their sporting performance. A few years ago, I solved a breathing difficulty for a player, correctly diagnosing what the problem was (in the nose). He had been carrying it around for some time, being able to “free” him of the weight was a great professional satisfaction “.
Good luck to “doc” Expired for yet another season lived in the front row for the Wolves and the red and white colors.
