The groups of the next CEV Champions League and the pairings of the CEV Cup and CEV Challenge Cup were drawn in the late morning of today, Wednesday 19 July.
The three Serie A teams Credem Banca (Itas Trentino, Cucine Lube Civitanova and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza) that will participate in the Champions League now know their opponents in the group stage (Main Phase). The opponents of Allianz Milano (CEV Cup) and Vero Volley Monza (CEV Challenge Cup) have also been drawn.
Among the teams in the first tier of the Champions League (the two Scudetto Finalists), Itas Trentino was drawn into Pool B, where it will have to face the Poles of Resovia, the French of Tours and the Slovenians of Ljubljana; Cucine Lube Civitanova on the other hand, drawn in Pool E, will play against the Belgian team of Maaseik, the Czech one from Prague and one of the qualifiers from the preliminary rounds. Second pot instead for Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, winner of the 3rd Place Final valid precisely for a slot in the top European competition for clubs: in Pool C, the red and whites will challenge the Germans of Berlin (the club in the first pot), the Turks of ‘Halkbank Ankara, and the Portuguese of Lisbon.
The pairings of CEV Cup and Challenge Cup were also drawn at the European Broadcasting Centre. Allianz Milano, qualified for the second European cup thanks to the Scudetto semi-final, will face the winner between Menen (Belgian club) and Horodok (Ukrainian team) in one of the matches of the Thirty-second. In the CEV Challenge Cup, Vero Volley Monza will also start directly from the Round of 32 without going through the qualifying round, facing the Portuguese team of Sporting CP Lisbon. Brianzoli qualified for the third European cup with the victory of the Play Off 5th Place last season. For both, the first leg is scheduled between November 21st and 23rd, while the second leg will be played between the 28th and 30th of the same month.
