After the win of Credem Banca Superleague, Cucine Lube Civitanova’s veteran Jiri Kovar celebrated the tenth year with Lube, winning 12 trophies, 1 World Championship, 1 CEV Champions League, 5 Superleagues, 3 Italian Cups, 2 Supercups.
Jiri Kovar: “never tired for win, especially with these colours”
Which of your 12 titles was the greatest?
Jiri Kovar: “without any doubt the V-Day win at Forum in Milano Assago versus Trento. The first with Lube, in a great comeback.”
Most suffered win?
Jiri Kovar: “This last Superleague 2020/2021. It was a complicated season, safety protocols, exams every day, playoffs quarterfinals without two starters, the toughest rivals, it was suffered”.
A lot of top players, but the chemistry was great.
Jiri Kovar: “Correct! we are still disappointed for the Champions League quarterfinals Game 1, then we tried to come back but it wasn’t enough. We wanted to defend the title, but in the end we won Superleague”.
Kovar from the bench is a lux…
Jiri Kovar: “I work hard and I practice hard to be ready. We win and we lose all together, but if the team needs me, I’m ready”
Still in honeymoon with Lube!!
Jiri Kovar: “I’ve always been confident and happy here, the jersey, the club, the fans. I’ve had some big offers from such big teams, in the years, but my choice was always to stay here, and I’m very happy with my choice”.
How do you feel as a “logo” for Lube?
Jiri Kovar: “Everybody is able to make the evaluation for the career, I would love to point that we are not football players, we are not billionairs, and we are not a trained players for ever. So the players who are searching for more lucrative pay are right, I can understand them. I’ve always been fine with Lube, so I remained here with happiness”.
Two titles in this season. And now?
Jiri Kovar: “this is the moment to relax, I want to stay with my wife and my son. During the season I’ve often on road, so now I can enjoy my family. But before the relax, a big high to all Lube’s fans!”.
