“It was a bad match, played without rhythm and we made too many serving mistakes” captain Scappaticcio is talking, analysing last sunday’s match that saw his team defeated by new leader Verona.
“It is better to lose against Verona, a level above ours, than against teams on our level – he says – even though two of their starting six were absent, but their replacements were certainly able to step us, like Canzanella who has gained a lot of experience in this category.
Even thinking back it is difficult to establish their merit or our faults in terms of the results, they have shown their main players’s strength when it counted but we demonstrated we could keep up with them both in the first and second set; Gato’s three consecutive aces had a severe repercussion on us which demoralised us”.
The captain highlighted the team’s inability to express themselves at home like they do away from home: “We were sorry for not having been able to express ourselves like we would like to in front of our supporters like we manage to do away from home; that is also why we ran to the changing rooms straight away, the bitterness was plenty because we prepared well for it and we wanted to win”.
What does Olio Pignatelli need now? “We need to go back to great reception performances like we have been doing from the beginning of the year; we did not do badly on sunday but below our standards and this is a team that needs to receive well lacking a focal point. We have a young diagonal player and a spiker (Bidegain) whose best skill is not attacking, so we need to receive better and better in order to improve our efficacy in attack!”
Capitan Scappaticcio has his own recipe for success, now they need to put it into practice from this sunday in Spoleto who has a new diagonal player, portuguese Vadir Sequeira, ex Taranto.
