Sell out crowd at Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova Marche, saw a great volleyball showdown between Defending italian champs Cucine Lube Civitanova and Sir Safety Conad Perugia. And it was a great game, which saw defending champs Lube winning the seventh game in a row after the loss in Latina in 3rd Round. Giampaolo Medei’s team stunned the former undefeated team in season Perugia, who fell down without excuses in front of the power of Civitanova. It was a clear win for Lube, especially in second and third set, where Lorenzo Bernardi’s team fell down struggling in reception. In first set it was an huge battle, with the partial finished at the extras, with Perugia who killed a bunch of set points, falling in the end on 28-26. In second set it was a big display of power between the two teams, with Micah Christenson dominating the game and the challenge with the setter on the other side of the net Argentinian Luciano De Cecco, dishing some great sets to his hammers Tsvetan Sokolov, Taylor Sander and Osmany Juantorena. The second set finished 25-15 in favour of Lube, with a complete dominion of Giampaolo Medei’s team. In third Perugia tried to fight back, playing point by point with Civitanova until the crunch time, suffering a break on 21-18, with a great ace of Juantorena on Zaytsev, which paved the way for the final 25-21 win in set and match. For Lube the best scoreres were Sander (Mvp of the game) and Juantorena with 13 ponts apiece, and Sokolov with 11. For Perugia only Atanasijevic stroke with a bit of continuity, scoring 12 points in the end. Big disappointment for Ivan Zaytsev and Aaron Russell, 4 points for the italian, and 5 for the american.

Lorenzo Bernardi (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “In first set we had some troubles in handling some plays in defence, paying our dues in the end of the set. In second we weren’t into the game, and in third we were good in reacting and keeping the game in balance, we were in front 18-16 when we suffered the crucial break. Lube deserved this win”.
