Cucina Lube Civitanova won the Del Monte® Italian Cup by defeating 3-1 Diatec Trentino in the final, in front of a great sell out crowd at Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno (BO).
Hnour of the army for Angelo Lorenzetti’s team, who fought until the end with strength and winning mentality.
But Lube on tonight was simply too much. They outscored Trento in serve (7 aces to 1), attack (55% for Lube, 48 for Diatec) and in reception.

Lube was searching this win for so long, their last win in the Italian Cup was in the 2008/2009 season, when they defeated Bre Banca Lanutti Cuneo in the big final. Since that season, Cucine Lube struggled in this competition, they lost in the big final in 2010/11 and 2011/12 versus Diatec Trentino, who eliminated Lube also in last season semifinal.
In 52 games between Civitanova and Trento, still Diatec in front, with 30 wins.

Lube won the Italian Cup in 2000/01 and 2002/03, both versus Sisley Treviso, in 2007/08 versus M. Roma Volley, and in 2008/09 versus Cuneo.

We stayed humble, knowing we did not win anything until tonight. We put on the court consistance and confidence, staying focused also in the tough moment, having more continuity than yesterday. My my first thought after this win is for the managemente of Lube. They made me the gift to be here to coach this great bunch of top players, especiallythe ones who did not play often. They could be starters in any other team of this Superleague, and they are always ready to step on the court. With this managemente and these players, is pretty easy to coach”.

 
Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “It’s a great pleasure, we were a little bit tired after yesterday’s tie break, but we gave everything on the court. After the loss last season in semifinal versus Trento, it was payback time. We always kept high our level of volleyball”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Allenatore Diatec Trentino): “We weren’t able to be at the level of Lube, in this game like in the Superleague in general. Obviously we are in good company behind Lube. We gave all we had, but we weren’t able to be sonsistent in the fundamental of serve, also because they were pretty good in reception. We committed more mistakes in this fiìundamental, because we forced the sierve too much. We were good, but not perfect, and we needed to be perfect. Anyway this second place is a great result, we forced our limits arriving here. We have the right approach, but need to give a little bit more”.

 
Jan Stokr (Diatec Trentino): “First set has been fundamental for the final win. Too many mistakes for us, and for Lube has been easy to win. In the second set we reacted, in the next two, we were in trouble in defence and down the net. They had good performances in serve and for us it wasn’t easy to put the ball on the ground”
