No suprises in the last quarter-final of the Italian Cup. Civitanova earned its pass to Casalecchio di Reno, where it will take part in the final four from January 28. In the semi-final, Blengini’s men will take on Piacenza, who stunned Perugia. Trento versus Modena is the other semi-final.
The league leaders remained unbeaten at home as they comfortably cruised to a 3-0 victory over Vibo Valentia. Powerful in attack with Sokolov and Juantorena, Civitanova was on hand also at the net with three straight blocks from Stankovic and Candellaro in the first set. The visitors had a 15-11 lead in the second but the French Grebennikov tied it at 19 with two aces in a row. Then, Juantorena took over to finish the set off. Vibo hanged on tight in the third but the hosts always had their nose in front right until the winning point from Sokolov.
Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “This is a big win tonight. It’s normal but we had all the pressure on ourselves. Vibo is going through a great period of form but we really wanted to qualify ».
Waldo Kantor (coach Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “I did not like how we got in the game. We lacked determination in the first set, while we did much better in the second and third. However, we did not manage to make the most of the opportunities we had. But it has to be said that against a team like that it’s incredibly tough ».
