Results :

Azimut Modena-Top Volley Latina 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 15-10); Exprivia Molfetta-Kioene Padova 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20); Calzedonia Verona-Bunge Ravenna 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-23); Cucine Lube Civitanova-Revivre Milano 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17); Diatec Trentino-LPR Piacenza 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20); Gi Group Monza-Biosì Indexa Sora 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20); Sir Safety Conad Perugia-Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia 3-1 (31-29, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15).

Diatec Trentino – LPR Piacenza 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20)

Diatec Trentino: Giannelli 6, Urnaut 10, Solé 7, Stokr 16, Lanza 12, Van De Voorde 8, Chiappa (L), Colaci (L). DNP. Blasi, Burgsthaler, Antonov, Mazzone D., Mazzone T., Nelli. Coach. Lorenzetti.

LPR Piacenza: Hierrezuelo 3, Clevenot 8, Yosifov 3, Hernandez Ramos 17, Parodi 3, Alletti 2, Papi (L), Manià (L), Zlatanov 1, Tzioumakas 0, Cottarelli 0. DNP. Marshall, Tencati. Coach. Giuliani.

48 hours after Civitanova, Trentino responded with a three-point victory of their own over Piacenza. Three-point still separate the two sides at the top. This was nine wins in as many games at home for Lorenzetti’s men. The home side was impressive in attack with Stokr at 68% (Two blocks, one ace and a third consecutive MVP award). Middle blockers Solé and Van de Voorde were brilliant too. On the other side of the net, there was the usual Hernandez.

Jan Stokr (Diatec Trentino): “Giannelli did a great job of setting me up from the start, everything became easy for me then. We lost our focus a bit in the second set and Piacenza got back in it but in the end everything went for the best for us ».

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lpr Piacenza): “Even more than the first set, it was the start of the second that hurt us the most. 1-0 down with a poor start to the second, we could not find our rhythm on the break. It’s obvious that to win such games you have to do a good job on second opportunities and we didn’t ».

Exprivia Molfetta – Kioene Padova 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20)

Exprivia Molfetta: Pontes Veloso 2, De Barros Ferreira 13, Leite Costa 6, Sabbi 17, Olteanu 10, Vitelli 7, Porcelli (L), De Pandis (L), Del Vecchio 0, Partenio 0, Polo 0. DNP. Jimenez, Hendriks. Coach. Gulinelli.

Kioene Padova: Shaw 2, Maar 14, Averill 5, Milan 11, Fedrizzi 1, Volpato 6, Bassanello (L), Giannotti 1, Balaso (L), Zoppellari 0, Sestan 0. DNP. Link, Koncilja. Coach. Baldovin.

A top quality performance from Molfetta meant Padova conceded a severe 3-0 defeat. The home side bounced back from two consecutive losses against Vibo and Piacenza and took three points thanks to a great team display full of fighting spirit. A key moment was when they hold off Padova’s come-back in the third. Joao Rafael registered 73% in attack (13 points) and 54% in reception and was named MVP.

Michele Fedrizzi (Kioene Padova): “We were definitely not in the best of shape after the trip, but this should not be an excuse. We started off tense while Molfetta was clinical. I think that was one of our worst performances this season and I know what it means to play in the heated atmosphere there is here in the PalaPoli arena. Now, we’ll have to work hard all week to prepare the next game ».

Thiago Pontes Veloso (Exprivia Molfetta): “It’s been a good game. We prepared it very well, we worked hard during the week. I want to congratulate everyone because that was a good performance, especially from Joao Rafael who’s been terrific. If we keep working hard day by day we can get back up the table ».

Sir Safety Conad Perugia – Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia 3-1 (31-29, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15)

Sir Safety Conad Perugia: De Cecco 4, Zaytsev 12, Buti 7, Atanasijevic 20, Russell 16, Birarelli 5, Bari (L), Podrascanin 6, Tosi (L), Mitic 0, Berger 1, Chernokozhev 1, Della Lunga 0. DNP. Franceschini. Coach. Bernardi. Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia: Coscione 2, Geiler 9, Costa 11, Michalovic 11, Barreto Silva 11, Barone 5, Marra (L), Izzo 0, Diamantini 0, Alves Soares 2. DNP. Rejlek. Coach. Kantor.

It’s not been easy for Perugia but it all ended according to plan with a three-point victory over Vibo Valentia in front of 3200 supporters. It’s been a hard-fought game, very tight for at least two sets and a half. The hosts found it hard to settle in while Kantor’s men proved once again they were stubborn and tough to manœuvre. The first set was crucial. Perugia saved no less than six set points for Vibo, while Atanasijevic finally found the killing touch. The Serbian outside hitter scored 20 total points at 59% and was named MVP.

Federico Tosi (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We really needed the three points. We knew it was going to be difficult because Vibo has been playing very well. We found ti hard after a ten-day break, and we lost our way in the second set with a few too many mistakes. But at the end of the day we did a great job of taking a very difficult encounter ».

Davide Marra (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We feel disappointed for the first set. We had our opportunities to seal it but Perugia found great plays to cancell them out. Congratulations to them because they never let you get fully into the game and they find their way to victory ».

Gi Group Monza – Biosì Indexa Sora 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20)

Gi Group Monza: Jovovic 3, Botto 11, Beretta 16, Hirsch 21, Fromm 16, Verhees 9, Brunetti (L), Rizzo (L), Dzavoronok 0, Daldello 0, Galliani 0, Terpin 0. DNP. Coach. Falasca.

Biosì Indexa Sora: Seganov 3, Kalinin 9, Gotsev 7, Miskevich 10, Rosso 17, Sperandio 4, Corsetti (L), Santucci (L), Marrazzo 0, De Marchi 0, Tiozzo 2. DNP. Mattei, Mauti, Lucarelli. Coach. Bagnoli.

Monza opened its 2017 with a come-back victory over Sora, the sixth at home this season. Thanks to this win, Hirsch and co move above Piacenza in the table in sixth place. Some well-organised plays and accurate attack meant Sora took the first set but Monza was back to his old best from the second set. There were four players in double figures but whole team battled hard and played as a unit. MVP Thomas Beretta (Gi Group Monza)

Simon Hirsch (Gi Group Monza): “We had a slow start tonight. We were not focused and made too many mistakes in the first set. We started to play our game in the second, maybe not to our full potential but rather accurately, enough to stop Sora’s reaction. Starting 2017 with a win will give us a boost. We’ll need to step up a gear against Trento ».

Svetoslav Gotsev (Biosì Indexa Sora): “It was special to come back in this arena and meet all my friends, I have to admit it. I’m disappointed we did not play our best volley, especially after the excellent first set. We let them play too much and they took every opporunity, we knew they would. This loss should not influence us too much : we’re making progress. Results have not come but we have to keep working like that and points will come our way ».

Azimut Modena – Top Volley Latina 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 15-10)

Azimut Modena: Orduna 8, Ngapeth E. 13, Holt 19, Vettori 15, Cook 14, Piano 14, Rossini (L), Onwuelo 1, Salsi 0, Massari 0, Le Roux 0, Petric 0. DNP. Ngapeth S.. Coach. Piazza.

Top Volley Latina: Sottile 0, Maruotti 15, Rossi 12, Fei 21, Klinkenberg 9, Pistolesi 0, Caccioppola (L), Strugar 0, Fanuli (L), Quintana Guerra 1, Penchev 5, Gitto 4. DNP. Ishikawa. Coach. Bagnoli.

A big crowd came to the PalaPanini arena to see a tight first set before Modena took it thanks to some good dig and attack. The home side kept putting its foot on the pedal to take the second too. Modena lost its way at the start of the third (7-14) as Sora was firing bullets on the serve. Latina kept going strong in the fourth and forced a tie-break, which Modena won 15-10. MVP Maxwell Philip Holt (Azimut Modena Volley)

Roberto Piazza (coach Azimut Modena Volley): “We have to learn not to let our frustration get the best of us and not to waste opportunities. We’ll have to make some changes. Our attack did not work tonight. We have to win our next game against Sora, we know it, we should start to be less flashy and more solid ».

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Top Volley Latina): “We played against a great team. We knew it was going to be tough and I have nothing to blame on my players ».

Calzedonia Verona – Bunge Ravenna 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-23)

Calzedonia Verona: Baranowicz 1, Kovacevic 16, Anzani 5, Djuric 16, Ferreira 11, Zingel 8, Frigo (L), Giovi (L). DNP. Stern, Lecat, Randazzo, Mengozzi, Paolucci. Coach. Grbic.

Bunge Ravenna: Spirito 3, Lyneel 12, Bossi 4, Torres 8, Van Garderen 6, Ricci 4, Marchini (L), Goi (L), Calarco 1, Raffaelli 1. DNP. Grozdanov, Kaminski, Leoni. Coach. Soli.

Verona started 2017 where they had left off in 2016, with another three-point victory. Besides the points there was a great flow on court and renewed determination from the hosts. The first two sets were quickly over thanks to some excellent blocking (10 in the first two sets). The third was tighter, but Grbic’s men clinched it to make it three in a row. MVP Uros Kovacevic

Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “We were not hundred percent for this game. We did a great job of reacting and taking the three points, a good sign for this start of new year. We have renewed belief in our abilities, somehting we were lacking. We’re all working hard, we’re on the right track ».

Fabio Soli (coach Bunge Ravenna): “The first two sets were really embarassing. We have to remember that our main quality must be our hard work. We did not get that against Verona and they just rolled over us. Credit to them but we also made it easier for them. We proved in the third set we could react but it was not enough. It’s suicidal to come in and play like in the first two sets. In the third set, they slowed down a bit and we showed some pride ».
