Civitanova ends its year 2016 with a comfortable win over Latina to consolidate its leadership at the top of the SuperLega as Modena was defeated by Ravenna. The hosts did not leave Latina any chance, they had great percentages in attack (75% as a team) and played superb dig. Sokolov finished with 68% and 18 points, top scorer, while Juantorena registered 13 points at 82%. MVP Micah Christenson (Cucine Lube Civitanova)

Jenia Grebennikov (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “It was a great feeling to come in as a starter in the last home game of the year. We played well, I am delighted with the performance. We proved we had a deep roster, that we could change the line-up and still remain a strong team. It’s very important for us to stay top of the table. We know we’ll face a tough game against Sora, they have a strong team and they do very well at home ».

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Top Volley Latina): “Congratulations to Civitanova, they played a great game. We played rather poorly, while they were basically perfect which amplified the gap there was between the two sides. There’s not much else to say on the game ».

Azimut Modena – Bunge Ravenna 1-3 (23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25)

Azimut Modena: Orduna 0, Ngapeth E. 14, Holt 11, Vettori 20, Massari 2, Le Roux 9, Rossini (L), Petric 5, Cook 1, Onwuelo 0. N.E. Ngapeth S., Salsi. Coach. Piazza.

Over 4500 fans in the PalaPanini arena saw the visitors of Ravenna doing the breakthrough in an extremely entertaining encounter. MVP Maarten Van Garderen (Bunge Ravenna)

Roberto Piazza (Coach Azimut Modena Volley): “I want to congratulate Ravenna, who prepared the game very well. We must have more respect for oursevles. I expexted a difficult game, but not that complicated. In the Italian league you can never lose sight of what really matters. We have to find ourselves again, using training for that ».

Fabio Soli (coach Bunge Ravenna): “We had a superb game against a top level team. This is a very important win for us, anyway you look at it ».

Calzedonia Verona – LPR Piacenza 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 35-33)

Calzedonia Verona: Baranowicz 1, Kovacevic 16, Anzani 8, Djuric 19, Randazzo 11, Zingel 2, Frigo (L), Giovi (L). DNP. Ferreira, Stern, Lecat, Mengozzi, Paolucci. Coach. Grbic.

Verona celebrates victory over Piacenza in front of over 3500 supporters and took three crucial points against a direct rival for the fifth place in the table. Grbic’s men showed all their will to get on track as Mitar Djuric finished top scorer with 19 points. MVP Mitar Djuric (Calzedonia Verona)

Nikola Grbic (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “A victory against a top team. This is an important result, but tonight I really liked the determination of our boys, they fought for every point. We’ll need more time to be hundred percent ready but I am delighted with the way we obtained this victory ».

Aimone Alletti (LPR Piacenza): “We’re going home without even a point. We just did not play the first set, it took us time to find our rhythm in the second too, and we could not impose our game. There was more passion in the third even if it went to Verona. Yosimov is the one who made the difference when he came on. We have some problems with our Italians on court, we have to handle the ball better ».

Exprivia Molfetta – Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia 0-3 (24-26, 26-28, 23-25)

Exprivia Molfetta: Pontes Veloso 0, De Barros Ferreira 14, Leite Costa 6, Sabbi 25, Olteanu 3, Polo 4, Porcelli (L), Del Vecchio 2, Partenio 0, De Pandis (L), Vitelli 0, Jimenez 4. DNP. Hendriks. Coach. Gulinelli.

The visitors won all three sets on the minimum margin.  MVP Carlos Edoardo Barreto Silva “Kadu” (Tonno Callipo Calabria VIBO Valentia).

Francesco Del Vecchio (Exprivia Molfetta): “We wasted some good opportunities today. Shame because we had been doing well of late. Unfortunately, in those games against direct rivals, we feel the pressure a little too much. We should be playing loose like we play against the top teams ».

Marco Izzo (Tonno Callipo Calabria V. Valentia): “This is a crucial win for us, we get points on the board and this is a place where some top teams lost points. The boys really helped me today, this is only as a group that we can obtain these kind of results. This is a special win for me because I left a piece of my heart here in Molfetta ».

Diatec Trentino – Kioene Padova 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-12)

Diatec Trentino: Giannelli 10, Urnaut 8, Solé 12, Stokr 24, Lanza 7, Van De Voorde 4, Chiappa (L), Colaci (L), Blasi 0, Mazzone T. 0. DNP. Antonov, Mazzone D., Burgsthaler. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Except for the first set, lost pretty quickly, Trento played exceptionnally well and did not leave Padova any hope. In front of 4000 fans, Trento remained unbeaten home after eight games. This latest victory came about thanks to an excellent block-dig area and to the combination of the setter and outside hitter who were basically unstoppable (34 points, 10 for Giannelli, extremely effective at the net and on the serve, 24 for Stokr).  MVP Jan Stokr (Diatec Trentino).

Stokr (Diatec Trentino): “I am very happy with this performance. I struggled in attack in the first half of season, it was a tough time. I have to thank Giannelli because I quickly found my rhythm thanks to the many balls I received. Then, it made easier to serve and take the three points we wanted ».

Valerio Baldovin (Kioene Padova): “In the first set, we started off brightly thanks to our serve. This allowed us to do well in the block-dig area. Unfortunately, we struggle to find our rhythm, but today at one point, Trento just did not leave us anything anymore. At times we have falshes of good volleyball, but we have to become more consistent ».

Sir Safety Conad Perugia – Biosì Indexa Sora 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20)

Sir Safety Conad Perugia: De Cecco 7, Della Lunga 8, Podrascanin 8, Atanasijevic 14, Russell 3, Buti 6, Bari (L), Mitic 1, Tosi (L), Berger 6, Chernokozhev 0, Zaytsev 0. DNP. Franceschini, Birarelli. Coach. Bernardi.

Biosì Indexa Sora: Seganov 4, Kalinin 4, Gotsev 7, Miskevich 15, Rosso 9, Sperandio 2, Corsetti (L), Santucci (L), Marrazzo 0, De Marchi 1. DNP. Tiozzo, Lucarelli, Mauti. Coach. Bagnoli.

No surprises as Perugia had the better of Sora in straight sets in front of nearly four thousand fans. Except for the beginning of the second and third set, Bernardi’s men always had the game in hand. That was the 12th victory in a row between SuperLega and Champions League for Perugia. Once again, De Cecco distributed the ball brilliantly, while Della Lunga had an important contribution with 8 points and some superb plays in dig. Sora gave it a good fight and had Miskevitch and Mattia Rosso. Thanks to the three points and Modena’s defeat, Perugia moves up to third in the table. MVP Luciano De Cecco (Sir Safety Conad Perugia)

Dore Della Lunga (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We needed the three points in front of our fans and we did it. We had a good game and except for a difficult spell in the second set, we have always had control of matters. We’re delighted, we could also rest some of our players, who had played a lot until today. Now we’ll focus on Ravenna ».

Mattia Rosso (Biosì Indexa Sora): “This was our third « mission impossible » before facing the second part of season against opponents that are more of our level. Their serve made it very difficult for us, and they are strong in the blocking area as well as in dig. We’ve lost but we did ok and we’re satisfied with our performance ».

Revivre Milano – Gi Group Monza 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 22-25)

Revivre Milano: Sbertoli 2, Hoag 6, De Togni 5, Starovic 11, Skrimov 10, Galassi 2, Rudi (L), Marretta 1, Cortina (L), Galaverna 2, Tondo 0. DNP. Boninfante, Nielsen. Coach. Monti.

Gi Group Monza: Jovovic 6, Botto 6, Beretta 4, Hirsch 16, Fromm 12, Verhees 4, Terpin 2, Rizzo (L). DNP. Dzavoronok, Galliani, Daldello, Brunetti. Coach. Falasca.

The Lombardy derby was a carbon copy of the first one. Monza had the better of Milan with a severe 3-0 win. Falasca’s men were disciplined, they did not make many mistakes while they were focused at the net and in dig. Milan was tense and could not seem to settle in the game in attack. MVP: Nikola Jovovic (Gi Group Monza)

Riccardo Sbertoli (Revivre Milano): “We played two identical games against Monza. We struggle against them in every area : in attack, reception, block. Credit to them for their performance. I am preoccupied with our attitude. We had played two excellent games, we trained well and felt ready. I am disappointed with the way it went. We lack character in those important games to get back up the table ».

Nikola Jovovic (Gi Group Monza): “We played with a lot of energy. You can be stronger or not, but you need energy, will to play and play well like we did today. They started off very tense, they have always been training so it was tough. Congrats to my teammates who had a great game, they attacked brilliantly and worked hard for every point, even when the pass was not perfect. We played as a team, we expected a tighter game but that’s volleyball for you, and today it went well for us ».
