CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA – LPR PIACENZA 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-9)
CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA: Sokolov 16, Candellaro 12, Pesaresi (L), Kaliberda 6, Juantorena 11, Stankovic 9, Christenson 2, Grebennikov. DNP Casadei, Kovar, Cester, Corvetta, Cebulj. Coach. Blengini.
LPR PIACENZA: Parodi (L), Alletti 7, Papi, Zlatanov 7, Tencati 3, Hierrezuelo, Hernandez Ramos 14, Clevenot 4, Cottarelli. DNP Manià, Tzioumakas, Yosifov. Coach. Giuliani.
Civitanova will give all the takings of this game (19343 Euros) to the rebuilding of the area hit by the recent earthquake. They won on court and made it two of of two thanks to this 3-0 triumph over Piacenza and former Civitanova coach Alberto Giuliani. The visitors were without Manià, Yosifov and Marshall. They could only resist for two sets.
GIANLORENZO BLENGINI (coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “A very positive evening. This was a very important win for us. It was not easy, and none will be this season. Piacenza was missing some important players today, but when they will have everybody fit, they’ll definitely be able to play with the bests ».
ALBERTO GIULIANI (coach LPR Piacenza): “I was almost surprised with the way we managed to play the first two sets given the situation we’re in. On the other hand, what we have to understand as quickly as possible is why we lost our way so suddenly in the third set ».
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – KIOENE PADOVA 3-1 (14-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-20)
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Tosi (L), Chernokozhev, Russell 17, Zaytsev 13, Della Lunga, Mitic 1, Berger 15, De Cecco 2, Bari (L), Birarelli 8, Podrascanin 7. Did not play Buti, Franceschini, Atanasijevic. Coach. Kovac.
KIOENE PADOVA: Bassanello, Shaw 4, Giannotti 15, Balaso (L), Maar 15, Koncilja 5, Volpato 4, Averill 4, Fedrizzi 11. Did not play Zoppellari, Milan, Link, Sestan. Coach. Baldovin.
It’s been real hard but in the end, Perugia came out with the win. Padova was tough to beat, they played quality well-organised volleyball. They made it very difficult for the hosts for the first two sets but Perugia somehow found the resources to snatch the second 27-25 on a Podrascanin block. Then the momentum and push from the crowd in this home debut led them to this 3-1 win. MVP Berger and Russell (both with 62% in attack) were the main men, while Zaytsev was not as sharp as usual. Padova was not as accurate with its serve from the third but they definitely have two top spikers in Giannotti and Maar.
Emanuele Birarelli (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “I want to underline how brilliant were our fans in this first game. It was not one of those big ones, last year for those match-ups it was not as full. I was very happy. It could make the difference this season. As for the game, I’d say we were a little soft on the serve and reception in the first set, while they served very well and were extremely well-organised. We knew we had to step up and do more and we managed to do just that to move in front and take control in the third and fourth set ».
Valerio Baldovin (coach Kioene Padova): “We played very well for two sets. Then we faded, we made a lot of mistakes in the third set and struggled to play in the fourth, while Perugia’s blocking got better and better ».
REVIVRE MILANO – AZIMUT MODENA 1-3 (20-25, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25)
REVIVRE MILANO: Cortina (L), Hoag 13, Galaverna, Sbertoli 4, Tondo, Skrimov 16, De Togni 2, Galassi 7, Starovic 16. DNP Nielsen, Rudi, Boninfante, Marretta. Coach. Monti.
AZIMUT MODENA: Cook 15, Orduna, Massari, Rossini (L), Ngapeth E 16, Le Roux, Piano 13, Holt 7, Vettori 22. DNP Petric, Ngapeth S, Zanni, Onwuelo, Salsi. Coach. Piazza.
The hosts gave it a good fight and believed they could come-back in the game but in the end Modena ran away with it. There were over 4300 fans in Busto Arsizio and Milan did not disappoint. The Italian champions sprinted out of the staring blocks to take a 2-0 lead but Monti’s men got back in it in the third. Then the fourth was tight all the way and it was spectacular. Milan cancelled out three match points but Ngapeth had the last word. An outstanding Luca Vettori was named MVP as he scored 22 with 60% in attack (3 Blocks, 4 aces). After a difficult start, Starovic shined with 16 points, like Skrimov, while Hoag had 13. First defeat for Milan but it’s clear it will be a difficult team to beat.
MVP Luca Vettori (Azimut Modena)
Gianluca Galassi (Revivre Milano): “It’s a real shame it ended like that after our reaction in the third set. We knew they were favourite, they are the champions. We tried to play our best volley, we did that in the third and fourth set. We gave it a good fight. This is a confirmation that we won’t give up easily no matter who we have on the other side of the net ».
Luca Vettori (Azimut Modena). “We knew it was not going to be easy to come here and win. We started off brightly in the first two sets, then Milan stepped up a gear and caused us trouble with their serve. We managed to win it at the end of the fourth but congratulations to Milan. We have a lot of alternatives, we work hard in training and everybody does it with a smile. This is something important ».
BIOSì INDEXA SORA – DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (23-25, 16-25, 17-25)
BIOSì INDEXA SORA: Gotsev 8, Tiozzo 4, Santucci (L), Kalinin 1, Rosso 7, Mattei 5, Seganov, Mauti, Sperandio, Miskevich 9. DNP Marrazzo, Corsetti, Lucarelli. Coach. Bagnoli.
DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 13, Burgsthaler, Antonov 10, Giannelli 5, Lanza 12, Solé, Van De Voorde 8, Colaci (L), Mazzone D 9. DNP Mazzone T, Blasi, Chiappa, Stokr, Urnaut. Coach. Lorenzetti.
The PalaGlobo arena hosted a SuperLega game for the first time. The atmosphere was excellent and there was a great team for the occasion, Trento. The hosts played loose, without fear, but Trento played on song and grabbed a 3-0 victory. MVP Simone Giannelli (Diatec Trentino)
Bruno Bagnoli (coach Biosì Indexa Sora): “It’s definitely been a difficult game. We started off well, thanks mainly to our superb supporters. We had a good first set, but Trento was unstoppable on the serve, so much so that they registered 10 aces in the game. This has definitely made the difference. Shame we gave away some easy points in the third. If we had scored them, we could have played for the set. We still have to get used to this high level of play, but it was probably a bit better than the last encounter ».
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Diatec Trentino): “It was important to get this result for many reasons. We had a different line-up than in recent outings, we needed a big game from some players, especially before the World Club Championships, in which we’ll play various games in just a few days. We need and we’ll need everyone so it was important to allow the spikers to find a better understanding with the setter in a game that had important points at stake. We took advantage of this opportunity, and even in the difficult moments like the end of the first set, we did not lose our composure. I am happy, we can look at the future with confidence ».
TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – GI GROUP MONZA 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 22-25)
TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Costa 3, Coscione 1, Marra (L), Geiler 4, Michalovic 7, Barreto Silva 9, Barone 7, Alves Soares 5, Maccarone, Diamantini 5, Rejlek 4. DNP Buzzelli, Torchia, Corrado. Coach. Kantor.
GI GROUP MONZA: Fromm 14, Dzavoronok, Daldello, Galliani, Rizzo (L), Jovovic 1, Botto 7, Verhees 7, Beretta 9, Hirsch 15, Brunetti (L). DNP Raic, Forni, Terpin. Coach. Falasca.
A solid performance from Monza who came away from Vibo Valentia with all three points. The hosts played the first set at a good rhythm in front of around a thousand fans, but they found it hard in reception. Hirsch was sharp from the nine-meter line and Monza escaped. Monza played simple but effective volleyball. Fromm was superb with 73% in attack and 14 points (he was named MVP), while Beretta had 6 of 7 in attack (2 aces). Vibo tried a come-back in the third with a good Diamantini off the bench but that was not enough.
Enrico Diamantini (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We played in spurts but without finding consistency. Monza was better than us in just about every fundamentals, they deserved the victory. We could have done better, but now we have to get back in the gym with even more energy to prepare for the next game against Molfetta ».
Miguel Angel Falasca (coach Gi Group Monza): “We had a good game. We distributed the ball very well to Jovovic, which allowed us to do well. We had an excellent game in dig too. I expected a different game today in Vibo’s first home game against a team that had done pretty well against Trento ».
