CALZEDONIA VERONA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA 1-3 (19-25, 26-28, 25-23, 21-25) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel, Kovacevic 21, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 8, Lecat 7, Spirito, Baranowicz 1, Bellei 6, Sander 18, Anzani 9. DNP Frigo, Starovic, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei, Juantorena 14, Priddy, Christenson 2, Cester 10, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 15, Corvetta, Cebulj 16, Podrascanin 12. DNP Parodi, Vitelli, Stankovic, Kovar. Coach. Blengini.

Verona and Civitanova made it a tight and entertaining contest for nearly two hours but in the end Civitanova came away with a 3-1 victory that momentarily sends them top of the table as Modena will take on Trento on Thursday night. Verona had to make do without Zingel and Serbian outside hitter Starovic. MVP Ivan Miljkovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)

Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “For me this is a rather disappointing defeat. It’s true we had players missing but that should not be an excuse for us because we have a deep quality roster that allow us to maintain a good level in these games. If we had made less mistakes, the result would have been different”.

Klemen Cebulj (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “Today was not an easy game for any of the two clubs. Verona played well, they put us under pressure but we expected that. In the end, we clinched it and that’s the most important thing”.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21)

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 9, Fromm 13, De Cecco 5, Kaliberda 8, Giovi (L), Tzioumakas, Elia 2, Atanasijevic 20, Fanuli, Birarelli 2. DNP Holt, Dimitrov, Franceschini. All. Kovac.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 2, Orduna 2, Giannotti 11, Balaso (L), Bassanello, Quiroga 3, Volpato 4, Averill 4, Berger 9, Milan, Diamantini. DNP Leoni, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

Perugia is back on the winning track with a straight set victory over Padova in the PalaEvangelisti arena. In spite of the energy spent in the Italian Cup and with Russell still on the side line, Perugia played at a high level against a Padova side who struggled to find its rhythm in attack (37%). A brilliant De Cecco had Fromm (MVP) and Atanasijevic (20 points) gunning the opponents out of the game. Thanks to this result, Perugia is back in fourth place.

Christian Fromm (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We did a great job, this 3-0 win is a crucial result for us right now. We have not been perfect but it was important to bounce back from the Italian Cup defeat. Now we have to focus our energy on the coming games because we have an intense period coming up”.

Taylor Averill (Tonazzo Padova): “We played against a strong side, they made it very hard for us for most of the game, they were excellent. We have not been able to make the most of the positive breaks we had. Too many things turned out to be complicated for us tonight and that prevented us from getting a good result”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – GI GROUP MONZA 1-3 (21-25, 25-22, 28-30, 21-25)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Kaczynski 3, Candellaro 10, Spadavecchia 8, Randazzo 6, De Barros Ferreira 10, Barone, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 7, Fedrizzi 14, Hernandez Ramos 12. DNP Mariella, Del Vecchio, Porcelli. Coach. Montagnani.

GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 3, Sala 6, Galliani 16, Jovovic 3, Rizzo (L), Botto 12, Verhees 2, Beretta 9, Zanatta Buiatti 11, Rousseaux. Non entrati Daldello, Mercorio, Brunetti, Gao. DNP. Vacondio.

Molfetta can’t seem to be able to beat Monza. Once again they surrendered with the same 3-1 score as the first meeting of the season. The hosts’ Cuban star Hernandez was not at his usual level, while the team appeared tired and lacking concentration from the first rallies. They also struggled to pull together and find solutions in the difficult times. Monza could count on an outstanding Galliani in attack with 16 points at 57%. He was named MVP of the game.

Marco Rizzo (Gi Group Monza): “We really wanted a result after the derby lost against Milan. We have an excellent group, we have always managed to get back on our feet after defeats. This team has to aim for the playoffs, and these three points are crucial in that respect. In my opinion we played good volleyball: our blocking worked fine and we played good dig, but reception was our best fundamental, we did a great job of containing the top servers that Molfetta has”.

Davide Candellaro (Exprivia Molfetta): “You could see from the start it was going to be tough. They got off to an excellent start, but even if we were not playing our best volleyball we had managed to get back in the game. We’re a bit disappointed but we just have to start over”.

CMC ROMAGNA – LPR PIACENZA 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-19, 15-12)

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 3, Ricci 12, Cavanna 2, Van Garderen 16, Polo 2, Koumentakis 11, Goi (L), Torres 26, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz 1. DNP Zappoli, Della Lunga. Coach. Kantor.

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione 2, Kohut 8, Ter Horst 6, Perrin 15, Papi 10, Patriarca 13, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov, Luburic 8, Tencati 11, Tavares Rodrigues 2. DNP Sedlacek, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

Although it proved difficult, CMC Romagna bounced back in the league with a tie-break win over Piacenza. Third game played in Ravenna and third game finished at the tie-break after the win over Latina and the loss against Milan. MVP Maurice Torres showed great character again and was key in the fifth set with a run of serves that changed the course of the game. Good performances from the Piacenza middle blockers, Tencati (4 blocks, 11 points) and Patriarca (13 points). Ricci (12 points, 3 blocks and 1 ace) and Van Garderen (16 points, 2 aces) stood out in the second part of the game

Fabio Ricci (CMC Romagna): “It’s been a difficult week, we knew we’d have found it hard to play at our best. We basically never managed to train all together and today was tough. I am happy though, because we never gave up, even after the disappointment of the set lost in the first and third. Tomorrow we’ll start on our mistakes. Tonight we’ll enjoy those two points”.

Manuel Coscione (LPR Piacenza): “We missed that little something to seal the game, but that’s nothing new. We took a point even if in my opinion we could have taken it all. We made a couple of steps forward so let’s build on that. We had already experimented this line-up with three middle blockers last week. We’re trying to find solutions to make up for our weaknesses”.
