There are two rounds left before the halfway point in the Serie A2 and not all the names of the 8 teams to take part in the Italian Cup A2 are known yet. Sunday’s round and the first games of 2016 will define the match-ups of the cup quarter-finals.
Beaten by Reggio yesterday in a postponed game of round 10, Sora stood still in second place. They will take on the 2015 champions Potenza Picena, who’s 8 points from the top but on a five game winning streak, the last one on a come-back at home against Mondovì. While Sora will try to get right back on track, Potenza will be keen to keep going to steal that fourth place from Tuscania. Sora’s Giglioli reached a thousand career point in the last encounter.
Tuscania is coming off a road win in Brescia, which followed two other victories against Siena and Club Italia. The club, who recently signed a two-year deal with the new co-sponsor, Com-Cavi, will try to stay in front or Potenza and stop Ortona, who’s been coming back up the ranks of late. Ortona conquered 11 points in its last five games.
In its PalaParini arena, Cantù will hope to make a breakthrough to make up for the recent road defeat against Vibo Valentia. They have a tough task however against Civita Castellana, the newly promoted side who stands proudly in third place thanks to one win after another. The 8th victory came last Sunday at home against Reggio Emilia.
Big match for the top places between Castellana Grotte and the league leader Vibo Valentia. The hosts are coming off two consecutive defeats against Civita Castellana and Sora, but they are eager to bounce back to get into the top 8 and the Italian Cup A2.
Mondovì will try to get back on track at home following the come-back defeat conceded in Potenza Picena. They can still make it into the cup but they have two tough games ahead. The first one is against Siena, who stands just one point above thanks to its tie-break win over Club Italian Roma in the marathon played in the last round.
Club Italia is back in the capital following its good performance in Siena, so close to complete a come-back. The young Italian prospects will entertain Brescia, who’s come out empty handed in the last three games, the last defeat coming at home in straight sets against Tuscania.
The end of 2015 is pretty much like a sprint for Reggio Emilia, who has just upset Sora in a postponed game of round 10 and now they’re right back on court against the bottom team Alessano, who stands one point behind. The Southerners have lost five in a row but they have quality players like Matej Cernic, who’s just 8 spikes from the 2500 in the Regular Season.
