SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – LPR PIACENZA 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21)
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 10, Holt 1, De Cecco 3, Kaliberda 8, Giovi (L), Russell 17, Dimitrov, Tzioumakas, Atanasijevic 20, Birarelli 7. DNP Elia, Franceschini, Fanuli. Coach. Castellani.
LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Ter Horst 13, Perrin 5, Patriarca 4, Lampariello (L), Zlatanov 7, Luburic 2, Tencati 3, Tavares Rodrigues. DNP Kohut, Sedlacek, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.
Perugia is right back on track with a 3—0 win over Piacenza in front of 2000 fans in the PalaEvangelisti arena. Castellani’s men did a good job to recover from the loss in Modena a couple of days ago. On the other hand, that was Piacenza’s ninth defeat in a row. They struggled at the net (not even one block) and failed to be consistent. The MVP is Russell, who scored 17 points with 73% at the net.
Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We did a good job of reaching our goal, which was to limit our mistakes as much as we could. We did just that and that helped us to win the game. We’ll immediately focus on the next game against Latina, We know it won’t be easy in their gym. Anyway, it was important tonight to get back on track after the Modena loss, now we have to continue like that”.
Davidson Lampariello (LPR Piacenza): “We have a good team, but we can’t seem to get it together. Unfortunately, when you get into a poor run of results, it’s tough to get out of it. We’re trying our best to increase our focus, we know it all depend on us. In this sport, the winner is the one who makes the least mistakes, and to start winning we have so much work to do”.
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – GI GROUP MONZA 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei 2, Juantorena 12, Vitelli, Stankovic 9, Christenson 5, Cester 8, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 11, Corvetta, Cebulj 9. DNP Parodi, Podrascanin. Coach. Blengini.
GI GROUP MONZA: Sala 7, Galliani 5, Mercorio, Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 14, Beretta 5, Zanatta Buiatti 11, Rousseaux. DNP Daldello, Brunetti, Verhees, Franco, Gao. Coach. Vacondio.
Third win in five days for Civitanova, who disposed of Monza in straight sets to stay top of the table with one game left to play to the halfway point of the regular season. Monza came in on the back of a positive series but the hosts did not let them any space to manoeuvre. Middle blocker Enrico Cester was named MVP of the game (4 blocks), while the whole Civitanova team had excellent percentages in attack (55%).
Enrico Cester (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We did a great job at the net, especially from the second set on. We faded a bit only in the third, but in the end we got what we wanted. We’ve been playing a lot of games in this period and the fact we have a deep roster is an advantage. We were coming off two long road games and winning this one home was crucial. We’ll face Trento next and try to end the first half of season at the top of the table”.
Iacopo Botto (Gi Group Team Monza): “It’s a shame because we proved that when we play our game we can make it hard even for such an experienced and quality team like Civitanova. We made excellent plays at times, while the counter attack was probably our main weakness given that it did not allow us to convert the rallies when we had the advantage. But let’s focus on the next game against Verona, without any pressure but trying to prepare well with determination”.
DHL MODENA – CMC ROMAGNA 3-1 (22-25, 30-28, 25-21, 25-19)
DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 2, Petric 7, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 13, Nikic 8, Piano 6, Bossi 1, Saatkamp 14, Vettori 20. DNP Donadio, Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.
CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 9, Ricci 3, Cavanna 2, Della Lunga 7, Van Garderen 17, Polo 4, Koumentakis 1, Goi (L), Torres 23, Boswinkel, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli. Coach. Kantor.
Modena suffered an early scare. Romagna took the first set and had to clinch a very tight second one (30-28) to find its way to victory. MVP Matteo Piano (DHL Modena)
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “We won a very difficult game against a team that played good volleyball and never gave up. It’s obviously not easy to always stay at your very best and winning 3-0 in the SuperLega is extremely complicated. Now ahead of us there is another game to prepare in four days. We’ll travel to Padova for another one we have to win”.
Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Romagna): “We lost against a superb team, but I am satisfied with my boys. They proved this team is second to none and that we can give a game to anyone”.
EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – NINFA LATINA 3-2 (25-23, 28-26, 21-25, 15-25, 15-11)
EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Kaczynski, Candellaro 6, Spadavecchia 1, Randazzo 11, De Barros Ferreira 5, Barone 3, De Pandis (L), Porcelli (L), Hierrezuelo 6, Fedrizzi 12, Hernandez Ramos 39. DNP Mariella, Del Vecchio. Coach. Montagnani.
NINFA LATINA: Krumins, Mattei 7, Sottile 1, Sket 12, Romiti (L), Tailli, Hirsch 26, Yosifov 10, Rossi 3, Maruotti 11. DNP Pavlov, Ferenciac. Coach. Placì.
Molfetta had ups and downs but eventually came out on top against Latina and secured its place in the Del Monte Italian Cup. This represents a historical result for the club who had an excellent season so far. It seemed all easy for the hosts in the first two sets but that was only an illusion. Latina made the most of Molfetta’s mistakes from the third and got back from the dead. In the fifth, all the Molfetta players pulled together in an excellent display to clinch the game. Hernandez scored a monumental total of 39 points and was named MVP. The record of Giulio Sabbi was not far.
Davide Candellaro (Exprivia Molfetta): “We started off brilliantly today but then some mistakes on the serve helped Latina resurrect. We did well to bounce back in the tie-break and play like it was 0-0. We have to cut down on our mistakes. Still, I think we’re on the right track”.
Roberto Romiti (Ninfa Latina): “We took a point and that was nothing easy. You just have to think that Trento lost point here. We showed great character to come back from a two set deficit in this heated atmosphere. I keep the positive from this outing and I insist on the fact this is a good point”.
CALZEDONIA VERONA – DIATEC TRENTINO 2-3 (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 10-15) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 13, Kovacevic 21, Pesaresi (L), Lecat 12, Spirito, Baranowicz 2, Bellei 3, Sander 13, Anzani 10. DNP Gitto, Frigo, Starovic, Bucko. Coach. Giani.
DIATEC TRENTINO: Bratoev 1, De Angelis (L), Giannelli 2, Lanza 26, Solé 12, Djuric 23, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 3, Urnaut 14, Mazzone 3. DNP Nelli, Antonov, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.
Not a game for those with a weak heart. Trento clinched it at the tie-break but Verona had control of things for large part of the match. At 24-22 in the fourth, the fans were ready to explode and celebrate but in the end the visitors prevailed. Pippo Lanza emerged in the last two sets and received the MVP award from his uncle Davide, special guest on the Verona bench. Verona had to make do without Sasha Starovic, out because of a back problem.
Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “It’s all experience. We should not have any regrets. This was not a negative game. In sport and at this level, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We had the rally to seal it, but we did not convert it. Trento never dies, if you want to beat them, you must be aware you will have to fight until the very last point”.
Mitar Djuric (Diatec Trentino): “We did well. Verona had a great game, but in the end we managed to clinch it. We made a lot of mistakes on the serve. All the sports are like that, you have to score the last point. This was definitely a good game of volleyball for the fans in the PalaOlimpia arena. We managed to stay alive and have our chance. We really played well in the fourth and fifth set”.
