Civitanova goes top
SuperLega UnipolSai: Diatec Trentino-DHL Modena 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10); LPR Piacenza-CMC Romagna 1-3 (25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 22-25); Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova-Calzedonia Verona 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20); Tonazzo Padova-Sir Safety Conad Perugia 1-3 (27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 18-25); Gi Group Monza-Exprivia Molfetta 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21); Ninfa Latina-Revivre Milano 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 21-19)
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Parodi 5, Juantorena 16, Stankovic 5, Christenson 4, Cester, Grebennikov (L), Miljkovic 13, Cebulj 4, Podrascanin 9. DNP Fei, Gabriele, Vitelli, Corvetta. Coach. Blengini.
CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 4, Kovacevic 14, Pesaresi (L), Lecat 5, Spirito 1, Baranowicz, Starovic 15, Bellei, Sander 7, Anzani 3. DNP Gitto, Frigo, Bucko. Coach. Giani.
There’s no stopping Civitanova anymore. Blengini’s men disposed of Verona in straight sets and made it 8 wins in as many games, the sixth in the league. This was Verona’s second defeat of the season after the one against Modena. MVP Jenia Grebennikov.
JENIA GREBENNIKOV (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “We’re improving game after game. We had an excellent performance today, we started off extremely focused and maintained that concentration all the way through. It’s important to obtain wins like that with good volleyball, especially at home. Now we have to reset and start to think of the next two games: on Wednesday in Milan, while on Sunday there will be big points at stakes here in Civitanova against Modena”.
ANDREA GIANI (coach Calzedonia Verona): “When you find yourself immediately 12-5 down, it has nothing to do with technique nor tactics. This means you are not ready to play, and I cannot accept that from my team because we just can’t play at such a low level. We have to forget immediately this poor performance”.
LPR PIACENZA – CMC ROMAGNA 1-3 (25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 22-25) – LPR PIACENZA: Manià (L), Coscione 3, Kohut 4, Ter Horst 2, Perrin 16, Papi, Sedlacek 3, Patriarca 6, Zlatanov 5, Luburic 27, Tencati 2, Tavares Rodrigues. DNP Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.
CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 8, Ricci, Cavanna 1, Della Lunga, Van Garderen 13, Polo 13, Koumentakis 16, Goi (L), Torres 26, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli, Boswinkel. Coach. Kantor.
Piacenza can’t seem to be able to come out of a crisis that began in the second round. Giuliani’s men needed to win and take important points but they failed to do the job. It’s been a hard-fought game but Ravenna was more accurate and made the most of the hosts’ mistakes. MVP Maurice Torres (CMC Ravenna)
Manuel Coscione (LPR Piacenza): “We must be mentally tougher. When our opponents escape in the scoreboard we just can’t keep up. There was some good things, but then we make mistakes that cost us dear. We really need to wake up. We can definitely do better than that”.
Waldor Kantor (coach CMC Romagna): “That was a good outing. We had played good volleyball at home against a superior opponent, and then we came here aiming to maintain that rhythm and take some points, and we did it. I asked the boys to maintain a high level of play and that led us to victory. Shame we lost that first set though”.
DIATEC TRENTINO – DHL MODENA 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10) – DIATEC TRENTINO: Antonov 14, De Angelis, Giannelli 5, Lanza 15, Solé 7, Djuric 24, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 1, Mazzone D. 5. DNP Nelli, Mazzone T., Bratoev. Coach. Stoytchev.
DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 3, Petric 15, Casadei, Rossini (L), Nikic 17, Piano 7, Saatkamp 11, Vettori 23. DNP Donadio, Soli, Sartoretti, Bossi, Sighinolfi. Coach. Lorenzetti.
Trento once again managed to defend its fortress from Modena’s assault. Stoytchev’s men won the big game of the day by inflicted Modena their first defeat of the season. This was Trento’s fifth win in eight games against Modena in the year 2015. Behind 2-1 in the scoreboard, the hosts had no intention to surrender and they fought hard to come back and register their 20th consecutive home wins in the SuperLega. MVP Oleg Antonov (Diatec Trentino)
Oleg Antonov (Diatec Trentino): “That was a great feeling to beat Modena in such a packed PalaTrento arena. We really played as a unit. We found our way out of a tricky situation and deservedly obtained the win. Such a result really help us to go one step higher in every area of our game”.
Matteo Piano (DHL Modena): “That was a very intense game. Trentino showed more composure than us in the difficult moments and deserved the victory. We still have some work on, but it’s important that we remain as united as we’ve been until now”.
GI GROUP MONZA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21) – GI GROUP MONZA: Daldello, Galliani 2, Mercorio, Jovovic 1, Rizzo (L), Botto 12, Verhees 15, Beretta 7, Zanatta Buiatti 12, Rousseaux 12, Gao. DNP Copelli, Sala, Brunetti. Coach. Vacondio.
EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Candellaro 8, Randazzo 8, Del Vecchio 7, De Barros Ferreira 5, Barone 7, De Pandis (L), Hierrezuelo 7, Fedrizzi, Hernandez Ramos 17. DNP Kaczynski, Spadavecchia, Mariella, Porcelli. Coach. Gulinelli.
Monza had obtained its first victory of the season on the road in the derby against Milan last Wednesday, and now they registered their first home win against the tough and well-organised Molfetta team. The hosts proved more active at the net (9 blocks) while Molfetta made too many mistakes (20). MVP Pieter Verhees (Gi Group Monza)
Oreste Vacondio (coach Gi Group Monza): “This is an important victory, which comes just four days after our first win of the season. Our team is showing some progress game after game, and they have big margin for improvement. Today again we won the last set in spite of doing a lot of mistakes on the counter, something we’ll have to avoid in coming outings. We still have a lot of work to do, but we do have an excellent basis to work on. We can look at the future with confidence”.
Raydel Hierrezuelo (Exprivia Molfetta): “We were not ourselves today. We got off to a very poor start and made things easy for our opponent. But we have to congratulate them, they played well. I think our serve and reception are the areas that went wrong for us. And we made many mistakes, which obviously did not give us confidence. We have to put that behind us and focus on the next important game against Trento on Wednesday”.
NINFA LATINA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 21-19) – NINFA LATINA: Krumins 1, Mattei 1, Sket 15, Ferenciac, Romiti (L), Boninfante 3, Tailli 3, Hirsch 31, Yosifov 10, Rossi 10, Maruotti 8. DNP Pavlov. Coach. Placì.
REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 22, Gavenda, Alletti 13, Sottile 4, Sbertoli, Russomanno Dos Santos 9, Tosi (L), De Togni 8, Baranek 21, Burgsthaler 2, Marretta. DNP Skrimov, Rivan, Galaverna. Coach. Monti.
Yet another tie-break for Latina, who overcame Milan’s challenge in the sixth round. That was not the most entertaining game with two teams who played a bit tense. Latina took a two-nil lead but could not avoid Milan’s come-back. But Hirsch took over in the fifth to lead Latina to victory. Latina dominated in the blocking area with 16 versus 3 for Milan. MVP Simon Hirsch (Ninfa Latina)
Camillo Placì: (coach Ninfa Latina): “That’s two good points taken, I want to make that clear for everyone. We have to be patient, especially with our young players. Milan began to play better in the third set, especially on the serve and they made it hard for us”.
Aimone Alletti (Revivre Milano): “We seem to make a habit of starting to play from the third set. We missed the last three serves of the tie-break and that really hurt us. We can’t wait to register our first victory of the season”.
TONAZZO PADOVA – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 1-3 (27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 18-25) – TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 13, Leoni, Orduna, Giannotti 13, Balaso (L), Quiroga 15, Volpato 4, Averill 9, Berger 1, Milan 6, Diamantini 4. DNP Bassanello, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.
SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 10, Fromm 13, De Cecco 4, Kaliberda 13, Russell, Dimitrov 1, Tzioumakas 1, Atanasijevic 22, Fanuli (L), Birarelli 13. DNP Holt, Giovi, Elia, Franceschini. Coach. Castellani.
Perugia came back from the tough court of the Kioene Arena with three important points. MVP Emanuele Birarelli (Sir Safety Conad Perugia).
Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We played extremely well in the first set, we made the most of our opponents’ mistake
s. But then Perugia started to put pressure on us with their serves and, with some mistakes in attack, we surrendered. We should not demean ourselves but learn from these defeats to improve and get results in future encounters”.
Emanuele Birarelli (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We knew it would not be easy to play here, Padova has made it hard to all the big teams so far. But we needed the three points, this win is extremely important, and that will do a lot of good to the spirit of the players”.
