In front of 2200 fans in Chieti, Vibo Valentia had the better of the final four organizer, Ortona. Well-organised at the net, and never easily beaten in dig, Vibo took revenge on the two defeats they had conceded in the league. Always composed and solid, setter Giacomo Sintini distributed the game fine. Michalovic (Top scorer with 22), Cisolla and De Paola tried their best but their spikes were often deflected by the Vibo block, which allowed for some regular counters. This will be Vibo’s fifth cup final, the fourth in the Serie A2. In the A1, they were defeated by Treviso in the final 2005, while they won the A2 edition in 2003 at the expense of Lamezia.

Giacomo Sintini (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “I am thrilled and proud of this win. We played as a strong team, among the best in the league. We did a good job of making things tough for them. We’ll enjoy this victory but remain focused for tomorrow. We want to give our best in this great competition. I take the opportunity to congratulate the League and Ortona who organised the event to perfection”.

Filippo Vedovotto (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We’re thrilled to be in the final. We were up against one of the most in-form teams of the league but we played a great game”.

Alberto Cisolla (Sieco Service Ortona): “We knew it was going to be difficult, we said it before the game and we meant it. They played a great game, while we did not play at our best. We struggled to play our game while they put pressure on us with their serve”.

Peter Michalovic (Sieco Service Ortona): “We made a lot of mistakes on the serve. I think that was the difference. Vibo Valentia played better, that was the strongest team”.
