The last home game of this group stage was all good for Piacenza. Zlatanov and co put an end to a three-game losing streak and managed to defend their second place. They played with determination and will, they bounced back from a first set lost and made very few mistakes after that. Poey shined with 20 points, Zlatanov did fine with 15 and Alletti chipped in 12. But Ostapenko, Papi and MAssari had excellent games too, capable of coming up big in the important moments of the game. Tavares’ distribution was accurate and brilliant while Marra and Mario combined well in the dig-reception area. Piacenza has been through tough times of late but is now close to qualification in the Champions League.

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Piacenza): “We needed three points and we managed to get them for us and our fans. We needed the win for our confidence but even more for the group standings. When our serve goes in we can give some trouble to anyone, but we still have a lot of work as a team. Tonight we did a good job of not getting nervous in the difficult moments”.

Joppe Johannes Paulides (Knack Roeselare): “We did not manage to maintain the level we played at in the first set. Piacenza deserves respect for the good volleyball they played and the result they ground out in a difficult moment for the club”.

In the small gym ‘Stade Charlety” in Paris, the Treia players celebrated a 3-1 victory with the 23 fans that made the trip to the French capital. Thanks to this win, Treia kept its chances of qualification for the Playoffs 12 alive. The Italians are tied in second place with Fenerbahce, who defeated the leaders of the group Belgorod. The first game in the new gym in Civitanova Marche, and the last of the group stage, will therefore be clutch. It will be Treia versus Fenerbahce for one place in the next phase.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Treia): “We got that important win in spite of the referee mistake on the last third set point, which cost us the set. We managed to get back to winning and take three points on a tough court. A victory we could not take for granted whatever some might think. We played excellent volleyball against a Paris team that never gave up. My team showed great character tonight, they showed how strong they are. Our opponent gave it all as expected, they hit the serve hard, and they made it tough for us. But Henno, Parodi, and even Kurek did well in reception. I am extremely satisfied with this win. Now we’ll play for qualification next Tuesday with the support of our fans in the PalaCivitanova arena against Fenerbahce”.
