Del Monte® Italian Cup SuperLega Final Four

37th edition on 10-11 January

Bologna’s Paladozza arena will be the center stage again of Italian volleyball. On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11, it will host the Del Monte Italian Cup final four, an event not to be missed organized by the Italian Volleyball League in collaboration with Bologna’s town hall, Emilia Romagna Regional Fipav Committee, and Bologna Provincial Fipav Committee.

Trentino, Modena, Treia and Perugia are ready to fight it out for the trophy, and the volleyball mania taking over the city of Bologna. The fans have assaulted the ticket sales on www.bookingshow.it.

All the games will be live on RAI Sport 1, but also on 63 countries around the world thanks to the numerous TV partners of the Italian Volleyball League Serie A.

This edition will be particularly ‘social’: the fans in the PalaDozza arena will be involved in various initiatives. All eyes will be on the center court but also on the 4 mega screens that will show the images of the most spectacular plays, the ones of the Video Check system, and the comments of the supporters through the social network. There’s more, you’ll be able to make as many selfies as you want with the giant pictures of the players spread around the arena, and thanks to special interactive bracelet distributed for the occasion, you’ll be able to share your pictures. Get ready to dance, make noise and hug each other on the “HappyCam”, the “CongasCam” and the “KissCam”.

The Video Check System will scrutinize the lines of the court with the high-speed cameras of the Italian League. But there will be a novelty: the first non-official outing of the Video check System for the touches at the net. Cameras will reveal if the fingers of the players graze the ball. This will be an important test for this technology that the Serie A in collaboration with the FIPAV intend on offering very soon to the SuperLega games.

Finally the final four will go hand in hand with charity with its ongoing partnership, started in 2012, with the “Giacomo Sintini” association, which gathers funds to help the medical research in the onco-hematology field.

Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino – Sir Safety Perugia

Trentino lived on the edge, so close to fall. But Stoytchev’s men fought back from 2-0 down and saved the day in the third set of the quarters when Piacenza was seemingly sealing victory. In its sixth consecutive cup semi-final, Trentino will take on Perugia, who got rid of Verona in the quarter-finals. Perugia made it to this stage for the second year running. Trento and Perugia met in the quarter-finals in 2012-13, with a 3-1 win for Trentino. Second blocking team in the league, Trento will try to limit the best scoring machine of the SuperLega, Aleksandar Atanasijevic. Winner with Piacenza last season, Luciano De Cecco will try to shine again this year and win it twice in a row with two different clubs.

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 6 (5-1 Trento)

ITALIAN CUP: 1 – Quater-final 2012-13 (Trento – Perugia 3-1)

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We played five very tight sets against Piacenza on Tuesday night, so our main goals in the last few days were to recover from the effort as well as get ready for the semi-final against Perugia, which I think will be even harder. It’s going to be a battle, it can’t be any different in those type of games. Looking at the positive aspects, reaching the final four by knocking out the holders on a come-back was a great demonstration of character and maturity. We believed in our chances right until the end, even when it all seemed lost”.

Nikola Grbic (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “To be in the final four and therefore among the best four teams is a positive and important result. And the way we got here was excellent too, beating Verona on a very good performance. We played with great focus and aggressiveness. It was important to bounce back from our loss against Modena, when we had not played well. Trento is the only team that lost only once this season, and they have beaten all the other three teams. Their coach is used to playing finals, he has the experience and knows how to prepare such event. This will be a very difficult game, Trento never gives up, we’ve seen that again in their quarter-final against Piacenza. What we have to do is what we have always tried to do: be aggressive from the word go and try to stay in the game, keeping in mind we are up against a very strong team”.

Trento in the cup:

13 appearances: 3 times winners in 2010 vs Cuneo, 2012 and 2013 vs Macerata.

Perugia in the cup:

3 appearances, beaten in the final 2014 by Piacenza.
