SuperLega UnipolSai

Round 5

Before the start of the games, all the teams have shown their support to Ghoncheh Ghavami. The young British girl with Iranian origins was condemned to one year in prison for taking part in a pacific protest against the ban on women to assist any sport event in public facilities along with men. She was arrested as she tried to enter to watch the World League game between Iran and Italy on June 20. The message FREE GHONCHEH was exposed by the SuperLega and Serie A2 teams with big banners requesting her release. The message was also on the advert boards of each club, which means it was seen abroad thanks to the streaming and worldwide TV broadcast.

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 4, Marra (L), Le Roux 8, Vermiglio 2, Papi 3, Ter Horst 1, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 3, Zlatanov 13, Ostapenko 2, Tencati, Kohut 5. DNP Rodrigues Tavares. Coach. Radici.

Victorious in the Super Cup 3-2, Treia had the better of Piacenza for the second time this season, this time on a 3-0 score. Their unbeaten home record has been lasting since the 2012-13 season. Thanks to this win, Treia joins Modena and Ravenna at the top of the table. MVP: Kovar with 17 points (3 blocks, 2 aces, 60% in attack).

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “Tonight the team responded brilliantly to the European loss on Wednesday. At 2-0 up, we played an excellent third set, with the necessary patience needed to beat a quality team like Piacenza. We started strong, built some important leads thanks to our dig. It’s been tight only in the second, in which we did not do so well, making three mistakes in attack and I remember we missed some serves too. There is still a lot to work on, our goal is to improve on our consistency”.

Andrea Radici (coach Copra Piacenza): “The game got complicated very quickly, we struggled with their float serve in the first set, and they did well to vary their game. We don’t have much to complain about, these are the games that should give us some valuable indication to work hard and get better”.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18)

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 13, Birarelli 5, Zygadlo 2, Nemec 14, Giannelli 2, Lanza 14, Solé 8, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 1, Burgsthaler. DNP Nelli, Thei, Mazzone. Coach. Stoytchev.

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 5, Bermudez 2, Horstink 5, Kauliakamoa Jr 1, Patriarca 3, Rizzo (L), Mattera, De Togni 2, Dos Santos 6, Veres 8, Valsecchi 1. DNP Cerbo, Preti. Coach. Maranesi.

Trento went back to victory on Tuesday in the CEV Cup in Europe against Novi Sad, and now they disposed of Milan in straight sets. Stoytchev’s boys added another good home performance which also erases the poor defeat conceded in Verona last week. Milan struggles to keep up all game long as they conceded 9 aces and 11 blocks. They are still looking for their first set in the SuperLega. MVP: Nemec with 14 points (4 aces, 3 blocks).

Filippo Lanza (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We made the most of the home court advantage, we train here every day, we are used to it and we also had a great push from the fans. We did a great job to make it hard for Milan, who struggled in reception. Milan found it hard to keep up with our rhythm at the serve and the net, and everything consequently went well. We’ve played four games in ten days, it’s not been easy to play well in all of them but it was important to make up for the poor performance in Verona”.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “There was a big difference in the serve, in the first set we struggled in reception first against Nemec and then Kaziyski’s serve. We stepped up in the second half of the second set. The revolutionary line-up of the third set? It’s another idea, the reception in four against Nemec, we limited the damage, even if Horstink is not a pure outside hitter. Alternatives are useful, we have to find the right formula before taking on teams we have more of a chance against”.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA – ALTOTEVERE CITTA’ DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO 3-2 (25-16, 20-25, 25-12, 19-25, 15-10) – TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 13, Sottile 1, Skrimov, Tailli, Van De Voorde 10, Rossi 5, Starovic 24, Semenzato, Urnaut 21. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino. Coach. Blengini.

ALTOTEVERE CITTA’ DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO: Teppan, Corvetta, Dolfo, Baroti 13, Tosi (L), Della Lunga 16, Aganits 8, Maric 2, Randazzo 20, Mazzone 10. DNP Franceschini, Lensi. Coach. Montagnani.

Latina clinched victory at the tie-break against Città di Castello and made it two wins in a row following the one over Molfetta. This is also the first point of the season for Castello. In the fifth set, Latina sprinted off the starting blocks with a 5-2 lead, an ace from Randazzo got Castello within one (5-4) but Latina rebuilt a good lead that wouldn’t cease to grow until 10-6, then 14-9 as Starovic sealed it.  MVP: Tine Urnaut

Tine Urnaut (Top Volley Latina): “We have been working well, we managed to win and bounce back from a fourth set in which there has been two controversial points going against us. We have to become more consistent but I’m sure we’ll get more points away from home”.

Paolo Montagnani (Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “We have taken our first point in this SuperLega and the quality of our game has gotten better. We still have ups and downs but today we had our moments”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16) – TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 10, Orduna 4, Giannotti 24, Balaso (L), Gozzo 2, Volpato 14, Garghella 7, Milan 1, Quiroga 16. DNP Vianello, Rosso, Aguillard, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 13, Noda Blanco 6, Sket 13, Del Vecchio 1, Spirito, Romiti (L), Kooistra 18, Bossi 2, Blagojevic 1, Hierrezuelo 5, Piscopo 7. DNP Puliti, Porcelli. Coach. Di Pinto.

In its third Sunday in a row at home, Padova put an end to a run of four games without a set to conquer their first victory at the expense of Molfetta.

MVP: Stefano Giannotti

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “I liked the way the boys played as a team today, even in the first set we lost. These three points will do us a lot of good, especially for our confidence, everybody has been working hard since day one: and today came the first reward for that effort”.

Sergio Noda Blanco (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We did not play well today, and I don’t know why. We knew it was going to be difficult here, but at some point we just couldn’t stop Padova anymore, though it has to be said they played a great game. This week we’ll have to understand what led to this poor outing”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 9, Fromm 14, Paolucci, De Cecco 6, Barone 1, Tzioumakas, Beretta 6, Vujevic, Atanasijevic 15, Fanuli (L), Sunder, Maruotti 17. DNP Giovi. Coach. Grbic.

Three days after its first Champions League win, Perugia played host to Verona. It was a tight first set until De Cecco’s ace made it 22-19. Perugia had the momentum at the start of the second and escaped. A great run of serve from Gasparini tied it for Verona, who even led 24-22 but Perugia found a winning spurt (26-24). The third was tight again but Veorna appeared more solid and they came back to 2-1. Perugia would however take all three points in the fourth set as it made really few mistakes.

MVP: Luciano De Cecco

Thomas Beretta (Sir Safety Perugia): “We have ended this period with a very positive outing, we’re glad to reach the break, we’ve put in a great effort and gained in consistency. We’ll now have two days of rest before resuming training to prepare for next week’s Champions League game, we’ll try to make the most of our time in the gym”.

Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “In the fourth set, we just did not compete but we wasted chances both in the first and second set and that is really disappointing. However, it’s true that playing here means having to play with twice as much fighting spirit to be able to seal the sets, because winning here is very tough”.
