Two important moments occurred before the start of Perugia’s home debut game against Trento: a moment to honour the memory of young Stefan Vujevic, the son of Perugia’s captain who prematurely passed away last year at five years old. The city and club decided to name the main kop, the Stefan Vujevic Kop. Meanwhile, Atanasijevic received the Andrej Kuznetsov award as top scorer of the 2013-14 season.

The game turned into a battle that lasted over two hours. The hosts won the first two sets with great determination before Trentino ignited a superb comeback culminated by a tie-break won by the minimum margin.

MVP: Matey Kaziyski

Gabriele Maruotti (Sir Safety Perugia): “We did a good job of staying in it in the first two sets. But we lost our focus too easily on our serve, which has not been effective. Even in the tie-break we had our chance but there’s a lot of work to be done, we’re far from where we need to be”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “Coming back from 2-0 down and win it just shows we have a lot of quality and a huge will to win. There’s an awful lot to improve on though. We definitely have what it takes to do much better”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 6, Noda Blanco 10, Sket 13, Del Vecchio, Spirito 2, Romiti (L), Kooistra 19, Blagojevic, Hierrezuelo 4, Piscopo 6. Thrilling encounter won by Molfetta coming back from 1-0 down to win the three successive sets. MVP: Kooistra with 19 points, while Raydel Hierrezuelo shined too on his first outing with the Molfetta shirt.

Wytze Kooistra (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We are thrilled with the result, in the first set we struggled in reception and once we had this fixed, we played the kind of volleyball we’re capable of. Here in Molfetta, in the PalaPoli arena, it will be tough to win for everyone”.

Dore Della Lunga (Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “We are meant to be two similar teams but Molfetta at home goes one gear above. After a good first set, we had moments in which we were dominated and failed to impose our game on the counter. We made a lot of mistakes on the serve too. We’re facing a tough game on Wednesday against Macerata, we know we have to improve on various aspects, because if you’re not concentrated on every play, games like today, you end up losing them”.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA – COPRA ARDELIA PIACENZA 1-3 (22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25) – VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 4, Gotsev 8, Quesque, Tiberti, Galliani 20, Padura Diaz 8, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 2, Vigil Gonzalez 2, Botto 18, Wang 3, Bonetti. DNP Procopio. Coach. Vacondio.

COPRA ARDELIA PIACENZA: Alletti 3, Le Roux 21, Vermiglio 2, Papi 6, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari, Zlatanov 16, Ostapenko 9, Tencati, Kohut 13, Rodrigues Tavares. DNP Page, Marra, Ter Horst. Coach. Radici.

Despite playing a good game, Monza lost its first one in its gym in front of 1700 fans against Piacenza. MVP: Kevin Le Roux

Francesco Cattaneo (Ass.coach Vero Volley Monza): “It’s been a good game. With a tiny bit more luck, a couple of digs done better, and we could have made it really hard for Piacenza, which is one of the best teams in the league”.

Andrea Radici (Coach Copra Ardelia Piacenza): “This was a difficult game because of what happened this week on and off the court. The team played well, holding on as I expected, especially from the third set on. We did well in attack too, except for the second set. These are three very important points”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 9, Coscione 1, Pesaresi (L), Deroo 12, White 2, Bellei 10, Sander 13, Anzani 5. DNP Gitto, Blasi, Gasparini, Centomo, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.

Verona had the better of Milan in straight sets to win its first home game of the season and stay perfect. Taylor Sander was named MVP , while Sam Deroo finished as Verona’s top scorer with 12 points. Milan’s outside hitter Bencz led all scorers with 14. Named as best server 2013-14, Mitja Gasparini was left on the side line because of physical problems but was well substituted by Giacomo Bellei.

Taylor Sander (Calzedonia Verona): “Thanks for this nice award from the media, I am honoured. We had a good game, we made a lot of mistakes but we got back on time just when needed. It was great to win and get the points, the boys have played very well, we all worked together to get this good performance”.

Stefano Patriarca (Revivre Milano): “I am satisfied despite the result. We have played better compared to the first game. We gave them a hard time, and Verona is a top team. They will have a good season for sure. We tried our best but we just have to keep working. I am confident, we know what we can do and where we want to go”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – MODENA VOLLEY 0-3 (15-25, 22-25, 20-25) – TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 4, Orduna 3, Giannotti 13, Balaso (L), Gozzo 4, Volpato 7, Garghella, Aguillard 1, Quiroga 6. DNP Vianello, Rosso, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

MVP Verhees

Valerio Baldovin (Coach Tonazzo Padova): “We played more as a team today compared to last week. Except for the first set, in which we made a lot of mistakes and made life easier for Modena, we have fought hard in all the others. At times we’ll need to be more solid, but we’re definitely making important progress”.

Pieter Verhees (Modena Volley): “We knew it was going to be hard in Padova. This was their first home game in the SuperLega and they wanted to do well in front of their fans. It’s true it was hard, but we have a lot of players who can help the team whenever they’re called upon. The important thing was to win and we did it”.
