Macerata qualified for its third league final in history after the titles won in 2006 and 2012. They made it with 3 convincing 3-0 victories over Modena in the semi-finals, making it 19 consecutive games without a loss at home, although they play the playoffs in Osimo. The Owner Giulianelli confirmed Alberto Giuliani as head coach for next season in the press conference.
Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “In the third set we were a bit rusty in the counter and that could have cost us dear. Against this Modena team, it’s always difficult to seal the sets. We’ll have to improve in building the point. I have to congratulate my players for the improvements made and the confidence shown. I did not expect to win 3-0 three times against Modena, even if it has to be said six of those sets were extremely tight. Credit to Modena for the way they played in those playoffs. Now we have to stay focused and work to be more accurate in certain situations, given that we’ll face an even stronger team”.
Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “Tonight’s game was a carbon copy of the previous ones. In all of the three games, we always missed that little extra to make us go over the hump. We stayed close but without ever getting to the finishing line first. There are obviously technical aspects that justifies it. Shame, especially tonight because Ngapeth felt pain on his shoulder just before the game and could not attack”.
