Semi-final game 3

Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Casa Modena

(2-0)

Match ball for Macerata following their second victory in Modena which followed a sweep at home. Modena could not make the most of the push given by the 5000 fans and now Macerata will have a chance to seal the deal and fly into the final. Kovar is doubtful as he came out of the last encounter between the first and second set because of a knee problem. Still, Kurek proved to be an excellent substitute. He was key, together with Parodi and MVP Zaytsev in the second game.

Past encounters: 66 (33 each)

Regular season: 2 (Macerata won both, 3-2 home and 3-0 away).

Playoffs: 16 meetings, 6 quarters (3 each), 10 semis (6-4 Modena)

Leondino Giombini (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “After the great success of game 2, our target is to immediately qualify for the final in this game 3 in Osimo. We need one last step to the league final and we want it on Sunday in front of our fans, there will be a packed arena. Modena will definitely not give up, they’ll fight till the end, so it will be crucial to give it all right from the first points, with maximum focus and determination”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “Our target at the start is the same as right now, extend the series to push it to game 4. Macerata is showing all its worth, but we have another opportunity and we want to try our best. On the one hand, we’ll need great competitive spirit, on the other, a lot of concentration to try to reduce our errors as much as possible”.

Copra Elior Piacenza – Sir Safety Perugia

(1-1)

After 8 meetings without any luck, Perugia eventually defeated Piacenza to tie the semi-final series to 1-1. This was a thrilling encounter in which De Cecco and Simon led Piacenza to a come-back from 2-0 down to lead 5-1 in the tie-break. That’s when Atanasijevic – him again – led the hosts back into it, helped by the middle blockers Barone and Buti.
