Playoffs Serie A1 UnipolSai

Quarter-final Game 2

The UnipolSai playoffs began with a bang. Macerata, Piacenza and Perugia made the most of their home court games even if that was no stroll in the park. The only team to lose on home ground was Trento, swept by Modena. Here is the preview of Game 2, to be played on Sunday.

Calzedonia Verona – Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata

(0-1)

Verona has gone so close from stunning Macerata in the first game. Giani’s men were 2-0 up and had a match point in the fourth set. The hosts eventually made it 17 game without a loss at home by clinching it at the tie-break.

Past encounters: 22 (19-3 Macerata)

Regular season: 2 (Macerata won both 3-0)ù

Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “In Game 1 some individuals made the difference. But we proved we could make it hard for a great team like Macerata, and that’s already an achievement. We’ll try our best on Sunday with the support of our fans, staying composed. Even if they are ahead in the series, I think this game will be more difficult for them than for us”.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “After this complicated win in Game 1, we’ll go to Verona with free spirits. We know they play good volleyball, they’re well organized and there will be a heated atmosphere awaiting us in the PalaOlimpia arena, which I know well. This will certainly not be any easier than the first one, it will be a great game for both squads. This is already a good test for my boys, and I expect a positive response”.

Casa Modena – Diatec Trentino

(1-0)

Superb performance from Modena, who came back from Trentino with the victory. The start had been all Trentino (16-9) but from that moment on the guests took over with MVP Bruninho dictating things as Ngapeth and Bartman concluded the attacks brilliantly.
