Latina defeated Fenerbahce in the Challenge Cup final first leg at the tie-break. The Italians will lift the trophy if they win by any score, and they will go to the golden set if they lose in five sets. The return leg will be in Turkey on Saturday 29. This was a thrilling encounter with two sets going as far as 32-30 and the hosts fighting back from an early 2-0 deficit in which Marshall and Miljkovic were unstoppable. And Fenerbahce had taken the better start in the tie-break with a 5-2 lead and eventually had three match points at 14-11. But Latina were not done yet and the most incredible happened: Fragkos came on, Basaran’s mistake, a counter from Starovic, a mistake from Felipe and Fragkos first time…16-14 to Latina.

Gianrio Falivene (Presidente Andreoli Latina): “If only we had played in the league like that… These are the games that makes you love playing sport. In the third set, it seemed that the game was over but instead there would be an explosion of joy. We’ve won the first half, we’ll play for the cup in Turkey now”.
