Yet another sold-out arena in Ravenna to celebrate Macerata’s venue in the last regular season game on home soil. At the end of a thrilling encounter, the hosts defeated the now former league leaders to keep their chance of a playoff spot alive. In order to clinch that 8th place, Verona will have to take three points against Latina and hope that Verona does not beat Trento 3-0 or 3-1. MVP Bari

Marco Bonitta (Coach CMC Ravenna): “At times, they gave us a hand. I am very happy for our fans and the city, I wanted to give them a special one before going to the Women’s national team. Now we’ll do everything possible to get into the playoffs”.

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We’re still healing and we know it, but the team wants to bounce back and it proved it in the come-back it did in the tie-break. Now we have to beat Piacenza to regain our first place”.

In front of 3000 supporters, Modena gathered its second three-point win of the week after the postponed game won against Latina and consolidated its 6th place in the table. Next Sunday, Modena will play for fifth place in Cuneo, which stands just one point above. Sam Deroo found himself in the starting line-up today and did not disappoint. He was everywhere, he scored 20 points with 62% in attack, had one ace and 3 blocks.

MVP: Sam Deroo (Casa Modena)

Angelo Lorenzetti (Coach Casa Modena): “We have not been as brilliant as against Latina, but clinching this home win was very important. The attitude was excellent, but we have to learn to limit our mistakes and be more patient. We are improving in dig and in the blocking. On Sunday we’re going to Cuneo, a team that is playing very well. This will be a crucial game not only for the league table but also to get in the playoffs mode”.

Juan Manuel Cichello (Coach Exprivia Molfetta): “Coming here in the temple of volleyball and playing against a coach that I respect so much like Lorenzetti was a honor for me. I feel we could have done something more. Modena has undoubtedly played better than us today and deservedly won. Our target as newly promoted team was to avoid the last place, and we’re very close, there’s one more game to play against Vibo, we’ll do everything we can to get the results we need”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-23)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux 18, Partenio, Papi 3, Fei 7, Kaliberda 16, Simon 4, Zlatanov 4, Tencati 2, De Cecco 1. DNP Smerilli, Husaj, Vettori. Coach. Monti.

Celebration time in Piacenza. In its last regular season game at home, Piacenza boasted the recently conquered Italian Cup and celebrated Papi’s 700 appearances in the Serie A1, a record (second Tofoli with 682, followed by Cantagalli with 635). The party did not finish there as Hristo Zlatanov was back in the team and Piacenza took three points that send them top of the league table before the clash against Macerata.

MVP: Le Roux (18pts, 2 aces, 1 block).

Luca Monti (Coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “All the boys did an excellent job of winning this game without even leaving a set to the opponent. It’s not been easy by any means to stay focused on the game, to have the concentration and determination needed to win it 3-0, so congratulations to the boys”.

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “Piacenza served very well and they played better volleyball than us. The dig was the main difference, they touched a lot of balls, while we did not manage to do as well”.

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (20-25, 26-28, 23-25) – TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Trinidad De Haro, Plot, Steuerwald 5, Randazzo 14, Farina (L), Forni 5, Crer 5, Gavotto 10, Ogurcak 15. DNP Thiaw, Cisolla, Sardanelli, Presta. Coach. Blengini.

Cuneo came back from Vibo with a 3-0 win and kept their fifth place in the table, a position they will have to defend against Modena in the last round next Sunday. Vibo’s tenth place will be at stake in the clash with Molfetta next week too. Vibo made too many mistakes on the serve (17) and was limited to 46% in attack.

MVP: Casadei.

Alessandro Farina (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “The game was decided on very few plays. Cuneo was consistent, especially on the serve. Now we have to focus on the last game in Molfetta, where we’ll play for tenth place. Our performances away from home have been far from satisfactory, but we have to try to win it and be ready to play the playoffs for fifth place”.

Manuel Coscione (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s been great to come back here in Vibo, to play in this gym where I played and spent three wonderful years together with my family. This was an important victory and now we have to try to keep our fifth place next Sunday at home against Modena. In the playoffs we must at least overcome the quarter-finals”.

DIATEC TRENTINO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 1-3 (19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25)

DIATEC TRENTINO: Sintini 1, Birarelli 9, Solé 3, Suxho 1, Thei, De Paola 6, Sokolov 22, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 11, Burgsthaler 2, Van Dijk 1. DNP Mazzone. Coach. Serniotti.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 4, Paolucci 1, Petric 15, Giovi (L), Cupkovic, Barone 6, Della Lunga 11, Mitic, Atanasijevic 18, Semenzato 12. DNP Della Corte, Vujevic, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

Perugia keeps reaching new heights. After its first ever cup final, it won in Trento for the first time in history. Thanks to this win, it secured third place for good. Trento was once again in a tricky situation, without both Lanza and Ferreira (cautiously rested for the important games coming up). Serniotti’s men struggled from the start, especially in reception (10 aces conceded). Perugia, who rested Vujevic, sprinted off to a 2-0 lead thanks to Atanasijevic and Semenzato (MVP) than did well to stop Trento’s attempt to come back in the game in the fourth set.

Tsvetan Sokolov (Diatec Trentino): “This was definitely a step back compared to our game in Bologna against Piacenza but we had big line-up problems. We have to work harder and better. This is not the kind of performance we hoped for before the playoffs. Now we have to focus on the game against Verona and on the ten days we’ll have before the playoffs”.

Andrea Semenzato (Sir Safety Perugia): “This season keeps bringing us nice surprises. After the cup final here is the third place in regular season obtained with a game to spare. A position that rewards all the hard-work done in the gym. Something we’d never have thought possible at the start of the season. We’re happy, but now we have to prepare ourselves for the last home game before the playoffs quarter-finals”.
