SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-20)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 6, Paolucci 2, Petric 18, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 1, Della Lunga 1, Mitic 1, Vujevic 7, Atanasijevic 18, Semenzato 4. DNP Della Corte, Barone, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 3, Blasi 1, Pesaresi (L), Ter Horst 12, Coali 1, Gasparini 12, White 7, Boninfante, Bellei, Anzani 2, Gonzalez. DNP Centomo. Coach. Giani.

Perugia rolled over Verona for the second time in four days after the cup clash of last Wednesday. Kovac’s boys found the perfect game in the first two sets with the trio Atanasijevic-Petric-Giovi in a world of their own. In the meantime, Verona struggled in reception and could not get their attack going.

MVP: Nemanja Petric

Goran Vujevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “We imposed our game at a very fast pace from the start, especially with our serve, and that put their reception in jeopardy. The first two sets were near perfect, we made very few unforced errors. In the third set, we had a dip mentally and physiologically, but we did well to get reorganized and take all three points. That consolidates our fourth place. We have to keep playing with that same intensity. Next Sunday’s game in Piacenza will be a good test to see if we can give a game to the big guns”.

Matteo De Cecco (Ass.coach Calzedonia Verona): “It’s clearly a tough period for us, we’ve lost four in a row and won only one set. We lost all the confidence we had in the first half of season. Against this Perugia team we had no answer, in the first meeting we had given them a game but in the last two encounters we have been thrashed. Credit to them but we needed a better attitude too. Poor performance from us while Perugia’s quality is no surprise anymore, this is a well-built team by a solid club and program. They have a lot of strong players, many deserve to play international volleyball, a superb outside hitter and Vujevic as leader”.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22)

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink, Antonov 12, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez 3, De Pandis (L), Casadei 9, Kohut 10, Alletti 2, De Togni 8, Coscione 2, Rouzier 4, Maruotti 8. Coach. Piazza.

Cuneo wanting to take revenge on the defeat conceded in the first meeting and they reached their goal. Thanks to the other results and this win, Cuneo moves up to fifth in the table.

MVP: Gabriele Maruotti.

Gabriele Maruotti (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We’re starting to get good results in this second half of season. We took revenge on the loss conceded in Molfetta in November and took three very important points. We have to keep working like that, and take advantage of the dip in form some teams are having”.

Giulio Sabbi (Exprivia Molfetta): “We came here to play our game. We knew it would not be easy. They put pressure from the start and made it hard for us right until the end. It would have been nice to make it last longer, but we couldn’t do it. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – DIATEC TRENTINO 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Parodi, Zaytsev 15, Stankovic 10, Kovar 9, Kurek 7, Baranowicz, Podrascanin 10. DNP Patriarca, Martino, Monopoli, Giombini. Coach. Giuliani.

The big match of the day goes to Macerata. They had not beaten Trento in the league for the past five years but they needed just over an hour to close the deal this time. Thanks to this win, they remain unbeaten, stay top and leave Trento nine points adrift, in third place. MVP: Captain Ivan Zaytsev with 15 points and 67% in attack.

Michele Baranowicz (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We were coming off a hard-fought win over Cuneo, and we knew we needed this win over Trento to get back on the right track. Tonight we did well in every area of the game, reception, attack and even blocking. We missed very few serves and that made it hard for Trento, all those factors led to victory. We worked hard on the serve, something that had not gone too well in our last outings, but today we found consistency. I am very pleased, given the period we were going through, we have to keep working and start winning away too, starting next Sunday. I want to add that playing in such a full arena is great, that gives you that extra motivation”.

Giacomo Sintini (Diatec Trentino): “Today we did not play at our usual standard, we found it hard and Macerata deservedly won. In the third set, we tried to get back in it with a different line-up compared to the starting six that began the game, but it did not work out, this was not a good day for us. We have to put this game behind us quickly and focus immediately on the next encounter to get back on track”.

MVP: Todor Skrimov

Dario Simoni (Coach Andreoli Latina): “We have worked extremely hard in the gym this week and it paid off. We have played at an excellent level today. The main characteristics of this team is that it never gives up, this is a team to be feared again. I dedicate this win to the group”.

Marcello Forni (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We have to be humble and get back down to serious work. They put us under pressure from the start and we struggled to contain them”.
