SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 10, Paolucci 4, Petric 13, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 3, Barone, Della Lunga, Mitic 1, Vujevic 10, Atanasijevic 14, Semenzato 10. DNP Della Corte, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

Beautiful volleyball in a packed arena for a game between Perugia and Trento. After two hours of a great game, the Italian champions prevailed at the tie-break despite the fact they were without Bulgarian Sokolov and Hungarian Szabo. They dominated at the net with 17 blocks vs 7. The hosts had Atanasijevic playing with the flu.

MVP: Alexandre Ferreira

Andrea Semenzato (Sir Safety Perugia): “We had an emergency line-up, just like them. I think we played a good game. Unfortunately, we were influenced by poor starts in the sets we lost, it’s always tough to come back against Trento. Shame because at 17-14 in the fourth, we were close to the three points”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Diatec Trentino): “I think the crowd saw a good game, with a lot of digs and long rallies. We found it very hard against Perugia, they made very few mistakes on the serve for most of the game. Then in the fourth, there was a click, and we found our way to the tie-break and victory”.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15) BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Antonov 15, De Pandis (L), Casadei 19, Kohut 8, Alletti, De Togni 11, Coscione 2, Maruotti 20. DNP Marchisio, Gonzalez. Coach. Piazza.

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Trinidad De Haro, Plot, Steuerwald 2, Randazzo 2, Farina (L), Forni 7, Cisolla 9, Villena 2, Crer 7, Gavotto 14, Ogurcak 8, Presta. DNP Sardanelli. Coach. Blengini.

Roberto Piazza’s team collected an important win to stay in the top 8 by beating a direct rival for a place in the Italian cup. MVP Manuel Coscione.

Manuel Coscione (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We took a little pressure off our shoulders with this win. It’s hard to take in the elimination from the Cev Cup and our target now is to get into the Italian Cup final eight. We needed a win and we did it! Now we have to think about the coming game, in Modena, after Christmas, we’ll need to go there and win it”.

Frantisek Ogurcak (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We played very poorly. Everything went wrong, it’s very complicated to win when you play like that. Shame we lost the first set like that, we had our chances, we just could not convert them”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 0-3 (23-25, 14-25, 17-25)

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Blasi, Pesaresi (L), Coali 1, Gasparini 17, White 11, Boninfante, Bellei 3, Anzani 5, Gonzalez. DNP Zingel, Gabriele, Centomo. Coach. Giani.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Papi 4, Fei 6, Simon 11, Zlatanov 13, Tencati 1, Vettori 14, De Cecco 1. DNP Le Roux, Partenio, Smerilli, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

Gasparini was top scorer of the game with 17 points and 5% in attack as Verona was defeated on home soil by Piacenza 3-0. Verona was without middle blocker Zingel injured and spiker Ter Horst who’s with the Dutch national team.

Luca Vettori was named MVP.

Adam White (Calzedonia Verona): “I couldn’t say exactly what is it we did wrong, what is the reason why we lost. We wanted to repeat the good things done in the first set, but we did not manage to do it. We just have to keep working”.

Luciano De Cecco (Copra Elior Piacenza): “It was a good game, a thrilling one to play in front of those great fans. The first set was a little tight, then we managed to put pressure on our opponents thanks to some good serving. We played good volleyball and sealed it as we wanted. A nice way to get to the two-day break before going back to work”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Parodi 10, Zaytsev 13, Patriarca 7, Martino, Giombini, Kurek 8, Baranowicz 2, Podrascanin 11. DNP Paparoni, Stankovic, Kovar, Monopoli. Coach. Giuliani.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 3, Kauliakamoa Jr 1, Cricca 1, Jeliazkov 7, Scarpi, Patriarca 6, Cester 6, Bari (L), Cebulj 17. DNP Ricci. Coach. Bonitta.

Macerata sealed the year with a new record. It gathered its tenth consecutive win in the league at the expense of Ravenna and stayed unbeaten. Already winter champs last week, Zaytsev and co won in straight sets for the 8th time this season despite the many players that were gone on international duty.

MVP: Zaytsev (13pt, 59% in attack, 2 blocks, 1 ace).

Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “A strange game in which Ravenna did not have all its starters and that’s a shame. We needed a win, we took the opportunity to play Simone Parodi and make Stefano Patriarca play. He really deserve it because he is second to none in terms of effort. The three points came rather easily, except for some slight amnesia at the start of the second set. Thanks to this win we consolidate our first place ahead of the last game in Piacenza before the halfway point of the season. Now there is a break which could make us lose a bit of our rhythm. We will miss the two Serbian middle blockers, who are going to the World Cup Championships qualifications, but we’ll do everything possible to maintain a high level of play”.

Marco Bonitta (Coach CMC Ravenna): “We tried to play a decent game, in the first set and in the first half of the second we played well, we reached the highest level possible for us today. Then, we obviously faced a strong Macerata team, they never make anything easy. The boys have to be encouraged though after this performance, this should not have been a game for them”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) – ANDREOLI LATINA: De Rocco 2, Candellaro 11, Rossini (L), Gitto 9, Sottile 2, Michalovic 1, Tailli, Noda Blanco 12, Starovic 5, Fragkos 16. DNP Paris. Coach. Santilli.

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO: Franceschini 2, Carminati 3, Corvetta 2, Dolfo 6, Sartoretti 3, Massari 10, Tosi (L), Piano 5, Rossi 6, Marchiani. DNP Lensi. Coach. Radici.

Just over an hour of play was enough for Latina to take the game against Città di Castello. Three crucial points for the hosts, who were closer to the team seen in Europe than the one seen in the league so far. Very solid performance taking maximum advantage of the players missing for Città di Castello.

MVP: Carmelo Gitto

Carmelo Gitto (Andreoli Latina): “I am satisfied with our performance. It was important for us to get this result and finish the year this way. We’ll have to resume with the same spirit when we play Ravenna in the next round”.

Andrea Radici (Coach Altotevere Città di Castello): “We did our best to prepare well this encounter, motivated, we tried this line-up in a friendly too. I am sorry for the boys. Latina does not deserve to be where they are in the table. They showed how much they wanted to do well and redeem themselves. Our young guys had a big opportunity but that was wasted”.
