A postponed game from round 1 was played on Saturday night between Trento and Latina. The hosts had the better at the tie-break in a game that proved how slim was the difference between the top and bottom part of the table. Thanks to this victory, Trento goes back to second place, and one more reassuring aspect was that they achieved it without two key men of the team, Birarelli and Lanza, well-substituted by Burgsthaler, MVP of the game with 14 points, 6 blocks and 89% in attack. Sokolov’s 22 points were important too, while Latina made a lot of mistakes in attack. Still, they never gave up and came back from a set down twice. They also cancelled a few match points starting from 11-14, but eventually surrendered.

Matteo Burgsthaler (Diatec Trentino): “There have been many twists and turns, we managed to win it with a little bit of luck but we deserve credit too because it’s tough to find your game when you are without two key players like Birarelli and Lanza. We are a bit disappointed we lost a point, but I am also personally happy to have won in my first career game as captain. It was a great feeling, and the ice on the cake was the MVP award”.

Roberto Santilli (coach Andreoli Latina): “To be totally honest, it’s not been the greatest of games technically, but there’s been a lot of emotions. We had already had some poor starts but today we managed to get back in the game. This is important to gain confidence and believe in our potential. We started without Fragkos, who had the flu, and with Michalovic who had done well in training. But as the game wore on, we found good alternatives in Torres and Fragkos. We are a group, all the players have to feel part of the team, we should not speak about starters and back-ups. We wanted to dedicate this win to Tailli, who made his debut as a starter, shame we couldn’t do it, he’s one that always works hard in training and today he showed all his worth”.
