DIATEC TRENTINO – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 1-3 (16-25, 25-21, 26-28, 19-25) DIATEC TRENTINO: Sintini, Birarelli 5, Solé 5, Ferreira 14, Suxho 1, Thei (L), Lanza 11, Sokolov 15, Szabo 3, Colaci (L), Burgsthaler 3. DNP De Paola, Fedrizzi. Coach. Serniotti.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Paparoni, Zaytsev 20, Stankovic 11, Patriarca, Kovar 17, Kurek 17, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 7. DNP Monopoli, Giombini. Coach. Giuliani.

Thirteen years had passed since Macerata’s last win over Trento, but it’s now done in this fourth round, and at the same time Giuliani’s men took revenge on the Super Cup lost in that same PalaTrento arena. Focused and accurate in every area of the game, there was no better place for them to justify the first place they are occupying right now than the tricolor court of the Italian champions.

Matteo Burgsthaler (Diatec Trentino): “We have to be disappointed not to have taken the third set. If we had won it, things would have probably turned in our favour. In the end, it didn’t go our way but we can be satisfied to have made it difficult for them in a game played at a very high level”.

Jiri Kovar (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It’s always very tough to play in Trento with the supporters pushing, but we have always been close to our opponent, we never gave up on anything and in the end we took the win and the three points. The third set was key, with a complicated end to it, in which there was even a red card, but we train real hard especially for those close games, and the results are there to be seen. This week of important games ended perfectly but it’s not over, we have another difficult one this Wednesday against Città di Castello”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CMC RAVENNA 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-23)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux 1, Partenio, Papi 8, Fei 11, Kaliberda 8, Simon 12, Tencati, Vettori 19, De Cecco 4. DNP Smerilli, Zlatanov, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 4, Cricca, Toniutti 1, Tillie 9, Jeliazkov, Patriarca, Klapwijk 10, Cester 7, Bari (L), Cebulj 13. DNP Kauliakamoa Jr, Koumentakis, Scarpi. Coach. Bonitta.

An hour and ten minutes was enough for Piacenza to get rid of Ravenna in straight sets and get the 3372 fans to exult.  Blocking and serving were the key areas for the hosts: 9 aces and 11 blocks tallied in the end. Vettori was back at his best with 78% in attack (19 points, 3 aces, 2 blocks) and was named MVP.

Samuele Papi (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We played the first two sets at a high rhythm, a bit less in the third but we did a good job to stay close. You have to expect a reaction from the opponents when they are two sets down. What matters is that we took those three crucial points to stay close to the leaders. We cannot pretend to win every set 25-17 and even if we might seem stronger than Ravenna, it is normal to go through difficult moments”.

Andrea Bari (CMC Ravenna): “Piacenza is a team on the up. They played at their best today. We did not expect to come to Piacenza and ruin the party for them but we knew we could give them a game. But we managed that only in the third set, which we might have deserved to win. We’re making little steps forward to reach our best form physically. Hopefully, we’ll get some points out of the next game against Verona”.

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22) – TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Trinidad De Haro, Steuerwald 2, Farina (L), Forni 8, Cisolla 13, Sardanelli (L), Crer 12, Gavotto 10, Ogurcak 10. DNP Plot, Randazzo, Villena, Presta. Coach. Blengini.

ANDREOLI LATINA: De Rocco 1, Candellaro, Rossini (L), Gitto 11, Sottile, Michalovic 7, Skrimov 1, Verhees 4, Paris, Noda Blanco 12, Fragkos 13, Torres 1. DNP Tailli. Coach. Santilli.

Brilliant performance from the home side to sweep the team coach by Santilli, former member of the Vibo team. Blengini’s men were clearly a level above right from the start, taking the first set in just 22 minutes. Cisolla had another great game while Crer was MVP of the night.

Alberto Cisolla (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “It was important for us to get the three points and do so with a convincing performance. We played really well. We followed the tactical instructions of the coach, especially at the net and in the third set too, when Latina had a good reaction. In a close set, we made the most of the opportunities that came our way and won it”.

Roberto Santilli (coach Andreoli Latina): “We made little progress compared to the game against Cuneo. We were not up to the task tonight and the fact we have a young team is not enough to justify it. Vibo played very well, with Cisolla in great shape. Shame we lost the third set, in which we did rather well compared to the first two”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Piscopo 7, Mazzone 6, Izzo, Del Vecchio, Cesarini (L), De Marchi 1, Sabbi 20, Zanuto 18, Blagojevic, Casoli 3, Saitta 2. DNP Fornés Jul. Coach. Cichello.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink 10, Antonov 5, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez 1, De Pandis (L), Kohut 5, Alletti, De Togni 4, Coscione 2, Rouzier 16, Maruotti 1. DNP Casadei. Coach. Piazza.

A perfect evening for Molfetta which collected a three-point victory at the expense of the favourite Cuneo. Cichello’s men had already shown progress against Trento and could get on the winning track in front of 1100 fans in the PalaPoli arena. A victory that came thanks a lot to Sabbi, MVP with 21 points, and Zanuto, 17.

Giulio Sabbi (Exprivia Molfetta): “Great victory. Unlike against Trento, tonight we have capitalized on the work done during the week and have been more solid at the end of sets. Cuneo was definitely not at the level we expected them to be, the one we’d seen on the tapes. Credit to us for never giving anything away, this is something the coach has always insisted on. Big thank you to our fans, the PalaPoli arena will be a tough place to go for our opponents”.

Juan Manuel Cichello (coach Exprivia Molfetta): “We prepared the game to surprise them. They expected a certain type of play from us, but the boys did a great job of following the indications and making the most of Cuneo’s problems”.

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO – CASA MODENA 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-8) – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO: Franceschini, Fromm 30, Carminati, Corvetta 2, Dolfo 10, Massari 2, Tosi (L), Piano 12, Van Walle 10, Rossi 12, Marchiani. DNP Lensi, Sartoretti. Coach. Radici.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Donadio, Sala 12, Sket 2, Deroo 15, Quesque 16, Kampa 2, Bartman 19, Beretta 8, Bossi, Hendriks, Krumins 1. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Stunning victory for Città di Castello who made it a superb come-back from 2-0 down to send Modena home with the defeat. MVP: Fromm

Loris Manià (Casa Modena): “At 2-0 up, we should have been more aggressive to seal it without giving them the possibility to get back in it. Then, once they had the momentum and excitement going for them, it got tougher for us. We have to forget quickly about it and focus on Wednesday’s game against Vibo”.

Antonio Corvetta (Altotevere Città di Castello): “From the third set on, our reception improved, which helped us to play face to face with Modena. We have a young team, who can walk in the clouds as well as lose the confidence gained in previous games. This win is a big boost for us before going to Macerata”.
