Trentino triumph in Super Cup

Superb atmosphere at the PalaTrento arena where the first trophy of the season was at stake. In the end, the Super Cup went to the hosts, who won their second Super Cup of their history at the expense of Macerata, beaten in straight sets. Trento had won it for the first time in 2011 against Cuneo in Cagliari.
During the presentation of the teams, the Italian internationals were called in the center of the court and received a standing ovation for the silver medal obtained at the European Championships.

Roberto Serniotti (coach Diatec Trentino): “We started from behind in each of the three sets but I kept telling the boys to stay in it, to keep fighting, we could not give anything away. When you play against Macerata, you cannot win unless you have a great performance”.
Filippo Lanza (Diatec Trentino): “We put our hearts and soul into it, it’s true we are young and without fear, we can afford to take some risks. We are happy for our supporters, Macerata is a strong team, at the start we needed to find our rhythm, especially on the serve. From tomorrow morning, we’ll focus on the World Club championships, let’s enjoy this victory for now”.
Emanuele Birarelli (Diatec Trentino): “This first trophy is a great satisfaction not only for us but also for this amazing fans, who kept pushing this team that worked real hard for a month to be ready for this game. This was not an easy game, they were favourite, and that makes it an even more special victory. Now we can celebrate with our supporters”.
Tsvetan Sokolov (Diatec Trentino): “I am just over the moon. This is my first game in the PalaTrento since I came back. The group has changed a lot. We are young and we always give 100% on court, we are eager to play and win. We always give our best in training to reach those targets. Our determination makes this triumph even more special”.
Alberto Giuliani (Coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “You never like to lose, even less on a 3-0 score. The players have only had a few days to train together, we knew it was not going to be easy, but we definitely expected to do better than what we did tonight. Trento had been training for a few more days and you could see that. Now we have to work hard to find ourselves better on court before the league starts and the Champions League game against Kazan coming soon after”.
Bartosz Kurek (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We had the full squad just a few days ago, while they had their team together for a few weeks already: they have been the better team. I expected them to play a good game, but I am certain as well that we will get a lot better, there is a long season ahead with many more trophies to play for”.
Michele Baranowicz (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Trento was stronger than us today. We have been beaten and now we have to work hard in the gym. Trento was more of a team, you could see that tonight”.
Marko Podrascanin (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We need more time to train and improve our game. We can certainly not be happy with what we’ve done tonight, it’s never nice to lose, especially when there’s a trophy at stake, but I am convinced our team has a big potential, and I am sure we will show it during the season”.
