Del Monte Junior League 2013 – “Massimo Serenelli Trophy”
The group phase of the Junior League is over. Cuneo and Macerata remained unbeaten and finished top of their respective group. The other two teams to make it to the semi-finals to be played tomorrow are Vibo Valentia and Trentino. San Giustino and Perugia will play for fifth place.
Semi-finals: Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia; Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo – Itas BTB Trentino.
Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia – Sir Safety Perugia 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-12)
First set tied at 10-10 before Vibo escaped. In the second set, Perugia made it real hard for their opponent, being 21-19 ahead, but the southerners found the resources to eventually come back and win it. The third set was one-way traffic.
Itas BTB Trentino – Altotevere San Giustino 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16).
No worries for Trentino who swept San Giustino, who could not resist for long in any of the three sets. Romanò’s boys proved physically stronger than their counterparts.
Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Itas BTB Trentino (25-23, 25-23, 25-17)
In the big game of the day, Trento got off to the better start (8-12) but was pegged back (12-13). At 18 all, Macerata scored a 4-0 spurt and took the first set. In the second set, Macerata recovered from a three-point deficit to tie it at 16 before having the better again in the clutch time. They took an early lead in the third and Trento would not be able to cut the deficit.
Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo – Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18)
Vibo was ahead on the scoreboard 19-17 in the first set but nothing to worry about for Cuneo, who inflicted them an 7-0 run to get into the second set with the momentum. They took a commanding 16-10 advantage before the southerners fought back although they could not go over the hump as Galaverna scored the winning point. Cuneo escaped early in the third and this time Vibo would have no answer.
