Serie A1 results:
Itas Diatec Trentino – BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22); Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo – Casa Modena 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23); Sir Safety Perugia – Copra Elior Piacenza 1-3 (25-22, 21-25, 26-28, 24-26); Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Marmi Lanza Verona 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18); Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia – Andreoli Latina 1-3 (21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 19-25); CMC Ravenna – Altotevere San Giustino 0-3 (23-25, 17-25, 20-25)
ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22)
ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 8, Birarelli 5, Juantorena 16, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Djuric 6, Colaci (L), Stokr 11, Bari (L). DNP Sintini, Uchikov, Lanza, Chrtiansky Jr, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.
BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Ricciardello, Paparoni (L), Falaschi, Dolfo 7, Casoli (L), Sabbi 9, Ferreira 12, Yosifov 6, Cester 8. DNP Menzel, Elia, Ferreira.Coach. Gulinelli.
Castellana’s four-game winning streak ended in Trento. Thanks to an effective performance, the world champions stay top of the league. Still, Gulinelli’s team did give a hard time to Trento especially in the second and third set, which made for an entertaining encounter. MVP: Juantorena with 61% at the net, 2 blocks, 1 ace for a total of 16 points.
Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “These are three extremely important points. We totally controlled the first two sets, but then we found it harder when Castellana took more risks on the serve and with a bit of luck they got within 20-22. We showed character to handle properly this situation and won it. Our serve has definitely been key in the first part of the game.
Enrico Cester (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We haven’t played a bad game but we were not there in the important moments, from the 20th points on of each set. You can’t afford to disappear like that against a team like Trento. Still, this defeat will not discourage us, we have been very positive of late and we’ll try to bounce back immediately”.
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18)
CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Pajenk 1, Savani 9, Zaytsev 12, Stankovic 5, Henno (L), Travica 6, Starovic 13, Podrascanin 5. DNP Lampariello, Parodi, Monopoli, Kooy. Coach. Giuliani.
MARMI LANZA VERONA: Kosmina 1, Ter Horst 3, Meoni 1, Bolla, Pesaresi (L), Gavotto 11, Peacock 2, Viafara 1, Fedrizzi 4, De Marchi 9. DNP Centomo. Coach. Bagnoli.
No surprises in this encounter between the stars of Macerata and the bottom team of the league Verona. Great colorful atmosphere in the stands with two excellent groups of supporters but on court it took the Italian champs just a little over an hour to get things done. MVP: Savani.
Alberto Giuliani (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It’s not been difficult, but we had had a negative week, it was nice to come out of it this way. We unfortunately lost Parodi in the warm-up, we have to check what the problem is, in the meantime we got Savani back to full fitness. Unfortunately, that’s the way things go this year, we can’t seem to be able to have everybody fit at the same time. There was a great crowd today, we’ll do everything to have an excellent end of season and they know it. We have three important games left in the regular season. We have to focus exclusively on ourselves because we might have to invent ourselves another unprecedented line-up”.
Nicola Pesaresi (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It was obvious Macerata was much stronger than us. We faced this game with our problems in the middle. The score says it all, we unfortunately could not do anything more. Still, I was born in Macerata and came up in this club so playing in this arena in front of so many friends was a great feeling”.
BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – CASA MODENA 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23)
BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Marchisio (L), Ngapeth 13, De Pandis (L), Galliani 2, Wijsmans 16, Kohut 6, Grbic 3, Della Lunga 2, Sokolov 17, Rossi 3. DNP Antonov, Abdelaziz. Coach. Piazza.
CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 6, Deroo 15, Quesque 2, Celitans 23, Casadei, Vesely 3, Pinelli, Kovacevic 8, Baranowicz 1, Piscopo 1. DNP Catellani. Coach. Lorenzetti.
In the big game of the weekend, Cuneo added to the joy of the Champions League Final Four qualification by beating Modena. MVP Wijsmans
Jakub Vesely (Casa Modena): “This was a very special game for me as I was here in Cuneo last year. Playing here with these supporters is always fantastic. We haven’t played a great game. I think the key has been the serve and we made too many mistakes in attack too”.
Andrea Rossi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “I am extremely happy with this result. We obtained three extremely important points to stay firmly in fourth place. I am also happy to have contributed to the victory”.
SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 1-3 (25-22, 21-25, 26-28, 24-26)
SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Alletti 8, Van Harskamp, Petric 16, Daldello 4, Giovi (L), Tomassetti 6, Schwarz 3, Tamburo 10, Vujevic 11, Edgar 5. DNP Van Rekom, Pochini, Semenzato. Coach. Kovac.
COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Corvetta, Papi 10, Fei 20, Simon 19, Zlatanov 18, Holt 6, Tencati 4, Vettori 2, De Cecco 1. DNP Latelli, Ogurcak, Maruotti. Coach. Monti.
Piacenza came out winner in a beautiful and thrilling contest in Perugia. The host won the first set but did not play with as much intensity in the second while Piacenza improved a lot in attack. The third and fourth set could not have been any tighter. The Block devils made a couple of mistakes in attack that cost them the game. MVP: Simon.
Andrea Giovi (Sir Safety Perugia): “We wasted a good opportunity to get points. We did have a few ups and downs but we’ve always been in it. Unfortunately, we were punished in the clutch time, where we had to be tougher”.
Davide Marra (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We knew it was going to be a difficult game. They played well, especially in the block-dig area, but we have done well to stay close all the time and eventually clinch it. Now we’ll have a tough month ahead of us with many big games. We’ll face one at a time and give it our best shot every time”.
TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – ANDREOLI LATINA 1-3 (21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 19-25)
TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Montesanti (L), Coscione 3, Cortellazzi, Kaliberda 8, Lavia 1, Farina (L), Forni, Rocamora 2, Badawy 3, Buti 5, Klapwijk 19, Barone 7, Urnaut 13. Coach. Blengini.
ANDREOLI LATINA: Rauwerdink 11, Rossini (L), Gitto 9, Jarosz 24, Patriarca 8, Troy, Fragkos 9, Guemart 2. DNP Sottile, Verhees, Prandi, Noda Blanco, Cisolla. Coach. Prandi.
Latina did not give Vibo much of a chance. Good reading of the game and great effectiveness when it mattered most meant they came away from Vibo once again with a victory. The hosts had no answer for the Polish outside hitter Jarosz, MVP with 57% in attack and a total of 24 points.
Antonio Lavia (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We are disappointing, we did everything we could. They played extremely well, both in dig and attack. We struggled at the net and they were better than us. Still, I am happy I was given a chance, I scored my second point in the A1. Maybe we lacked that reaction we had at the end, which we should have had for the whole game, because the gap was too big”.
Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “I am obviously very happy with the win. We have played without our starting setter for the first time this season, I am happy for Michel Guemart who guided the team, and I am happy for Patriarca who played instead of Verhees. We played with competitive spirit, we did not do too many mistakes considering this was a game between two teams that were not having their best moment of form. This three points will do us a lot of good”.
